The Darling Family June 2010 Trip Report: When are the Parents Showing Up?11/5 New TR

everyone to my new trip report. For you old readers its great to have you back! For any new readers out there Im glad you could make it. This trip was a 13 day adventure that included the Auto Train, the Pirate's League, the Albatross Pirate Cruise, a week of the DDP, a Disney Cruise, Universal including Harry Potter, and a day at the beach. Needless to say I have lots to share so jump aboard If you stick around I'll get to explaining the trip report title too.

If youre interested in links to previous trip reports here they are:

The Darling Family June 2009 Beach Club Trip Report: Hugging Ewoks and Finding Peter Pan

Mrs. Darling's 2010 Half Marathon Trip: Yes, it Does Snow at Disney World

And here is the link to the PTR for this trip:

Mrs. Darling's June 2010 Accidental PTR: Pirates and Harry Potter

Now on to the cast:

First we have myself, Mrs. Darling (though my friends all call me Jenny.) We have my wonderful DH who sometimes morphs into Peter Pan at Disney World. DH never made it to Disney World this trip, but apparently Dr. Suess, Superheroes and Harry Potter all bring out Peter Pan as well.

Next we have Wendy Darling. She is my beautiful daughter that is growing up too fast. I see her leaving the Nursery very soon.

Then there is John Darling. John is my tender hearted 8 year old that really gets Disney World. And we can't forget Michael Darling. Michael is a bit moody for a 5 year old. He is fun loving and happy much of the time, but definitely will let us know when hes had enough. There is no one Michael would rather be with than his big brother John. Though he does spend some of that time bugging his kind hearted big brother

There are supporting cast members that will make brief appearances in this trip report. They will be introduced when they make their debuts.

Before I begin Ill give a bit of background on how this trip came to be. (If you read my PTR you can skip this part.) My parents take each of their grandkids on a 10 year old trip and Wendy turned 10 this Spring so it was time for hers. I also have a niece that is 2 weeks younger than Wendy who was going on her 10 year old trip with my parents this summer too. So last summer Wendy and her cousin came up with the brilliant idea to take a Disney Cruise for their 10 year old trip. And my parents went for it! So that meant I had to get Wendy down to Florida for the trip. Now DH (always the sensible one) suggested we put her on a direct flight and be done with it. I on the other hand have very little sense and saw an opportunity for adventure. I concocted the idea of driving her down myself and taking my boys to Disney World while Wendy went on her cruise. DH is a very smart man and knows when he is fighting a losing battle so he agreed. Then he came up with a most fabulous idea. Why didnt he fly down after the cruise and spend a few days with us visiting Universal and the new Harry Potter attraction? I loved this idea and agreed without any hesitation. Then hed drive back with us. So that was the basic plan which we stuck with. I eventually decided I didnt want to drive all the way to Orlando on my own so I came up with the Auto Train. DH suggested we find a beach to stop at on the drive home which led to a couple of nights at Hilton Head (not at the Disney resort though). Thus, my 13 day adventure was born. So let it begin.

You might have to wait awhile for the Harry Potter stuff. That is at the end of the trip. So you're going to have to slog through a whole week at Disney first.

That's OK because we were at Disney the same time you were. I like to read TRs that take place the same time that we were there. It's going to be fun.

My advice is to keep your kids out of the big Japan store for as long as you possibly can I definitely want to hear the Voices of Liberty. I think I'll try see them in January because we're staying at the Boardwalk so I'm sure we'll spend plenty of time in the World Showcase. (Dinner is there almost every night.)

I'm glad to have you on board. I notice in your ticker that you're heading to WWOHP in a couple of months. By then I might actually be done with our Harry Potter report

Ecpot Rope Drop

Another bright Disney morning was upon us. This morning we just ate a box of donuts in the room. (Its vacation and no grown ups were around) We were out the door early once again and by about 8:30 saw this site.

A beautiful sunshiney day. This was our Epcot rope drop day. Though wed already spent quite a bit of time here we still hadnt ridden any of the big rides. So today was the day for that. After going through the turnstiles we headed to the right side of the park to await the rope drop and join the crowd to Soarin. In the past wed always had DH with us for the Soarin rope drop and wed sent him off to retrieve fastpasses while the kids and I strolled into Character Connections to say hello to our friends without waiting. Today would be different. Today I would have to retrieve the fastpasses myself. So the rope dropped and I joined the throng, holding on to both the boys as I went. Now Im familiar with the insanity that is the Toy Story Rope Drop and Im virtually a professional at the Dumbo Dash. (Ive actually won that one twice.) I was a newbie at the Soarin rope drop though. I find Toy Story Rope Drop amusing and the Dumbo Dash is a great adrenaline rush. (Love hoofing it up Main Street.) The Soarin dash was a bit of a let down. Its just silly. I mean why do we seriously have to all file into a building and down a bunch of stairs so we can get the illusive fastpasses? I think they should figure out a way to hand them out without requiring us all to enter the building. It would just be way more efficient. Like maybe put a set of machines up outside the building that can be used at open. Anyway, Im sure they have their reasons, but I didnt get any sort of kick out of this rope drop like I usually do with other rope drops. So in the future Im sure well go back to tradition and have DH do the dirty work while the kids and I go visit our friends. So after getting our fastpasses we crossed over to the other side of the park where we hit the standby line for Test Track.

My boys love this ride. We took this picture because this man is pretty much the same size as DH, and of course we missed him.

Eventually we made it on the ride. (Were in the back row.)

No Test Track ride is complete without taking a couple of showroom cars for a test drive.

After we left Test Track it was time for all of us to try a brand new ride. One of the things DH really wanted the boys to do on this trip was go on Mission Space. He thought they would love it. Now hed been on it (the orange side), but I never had. Im pretty sure its one of those things that would make me queasy. I figured I could handle the green side without any problem so we headed over that way to give it a try. The boys were both nervous about it because it was an unknown, but I reminded them wed promised DH we would do it. So we headed in and there was no line.

Did they like it! You bet. In fact John now proclaims this to be one of his favorite rides. Who knows maybe DH will be able to talk him into the orange side next time. As we exited the ride we explored the shop. It was here that John saw the stuffed Stitch for the first time and decided it must be his. He was still wanting more Pokemon cards though and was trying to decide how to spend the money. Decisions, decisions. So he decided not to get the Stitch at least for the moment. We wandered out of the shop and took this shot to commemorate the boys first ride on Mission Space.

It was now about 10:30 and wed planned to meet the Disney Family for lunch at 11:00. You know what they say about the best laid plans though . . .
