Ironman Florida Congratulations
Just wanted to give a "Great Job" to my brother.
He participated in the Ironman Florida this weekend. He finished in 13 hours, 1 minute & 12 seconds. One of his goals was to be on the run segment before the person in first place finished (8 hours, 7 minutes & 59 seconds). He was able to do that. This is the first full triathlon that he has done. He is 42 years old and has been training since last November. It was a great weekend because my parents came out from CA and my sister came down from NC. So everyone was here in Panama City for the triathlon plus my birthday. I am so proud of him. He finished 4 hours, 53 minutes & 13 seconds after the winner. We met so many great people before and during the race. We ended up cheering for about 6 other people that we met. My brother was impressed with how well everything was organized. Also a Congrats to all the participants, whether they finished officially or unofficially. It takes alot of hard work to do a triathlon. It was total of 140.6 miles (2.4 swim, 112 bike & 26.2 run)

Yay!
for your brother!!My DH did the Ironman KY (Louisville in August) and finished in 15 hours, 34 minutes, 35 seconds. By comparison, the overall winner a professional, came home in 8:33:58. He's 48 yo. I was so proud of him!! He came home and 2 weeks later had a scheduled shoulder surgery and is awaiting an elbow replacement! He's planning on another one in 2010. I wonder if Panama City will be on the top of his list? Training for an Ironman is no easy task. It was an amazing race to watch unfold. 140.6 is a long, long way!

My brother found out a couple weeks ago that he had a frozen hip socket. So to do the Ironman with a bad hip was amazing.
Congrats to your DH. If he does decide to do the one in PC, give me a holler and I will be out there to cheer him on.

My brother did his first Ironman here in Florida in 2008. Today he finished his 4th Ironman (Ironman Arizona) and did his best time ever - 12:23:05.
![]() His times were: swim - 1:18:59, bike - 5:41:42, run - 5:11:23 with swim to bike transition 5:52 and bike to run transition 5:09. For his first Ironman his times were: swim - 1:12:59, bike - 6:12:05, run - 5:22:44 with swim to bike transition 7:30 and bike to run transition 5:54. In 2010 he did the Ironman Arizona and didn't do to bad, but had trouble after the swim. His over all time was 13:02:01 and his times were: swim - 1:28:22, bike - 6:38:02, run - 4:37:32 with swim to bike transition 11:39 and bike to run transition 6:26. In May of this year he did the Ironman Texas. He did fine on the swim and the bike, but ended up with a HUGE blister so walked the run section. His overall time was 15:41:26 and his times were: swim - 1:32:25, bike - 6:11:55, run - 7:41:17 with swim to bike transition 6:52 and bike to run transition 8:56. I am so proud of him. He never gave up even when he had problems. He was really sick after the swim the first time he did Arizona. In Texas, it got very warm, very fast and I think that gave him a little problem. He said when he was about 40 miles from the end of the bike section, he suddenly just needed it to be over. I hope he decides to do another one here in PC. I was able to see him do the one in Texas. Love my bro!!

![]() ![]() ![]() Seems like I'm the only one on the DIS to celebrate with you on these races! Anyway, I know DH will want to do another Ironman someday but he still needs that elbow replaced and just got had shoulder surgery in September! He still runs and bikes everyday so we'll see. Me, myself, I will be glad when the Ironmans stop for him. The training is intense and I'd rather he just run marathons and such. We'll see, he loves to race.PS Not sure if you'll remember by I was the one who sent your friend's grandson the hat and tee shirt from the FD in TN!

Thank you again for the hat and t-shirt.
My DB really enjoys doing the Ironman. He also helps other people in San Diego train for them. He has quite a few friends that also participate in them or go to help work them or just to cheer the participants on. My parents (both over 80) went to AZ and all his friends helped keep them up to date as to where he was on the course. I know the training is intense. Maybe they'll both be competing in one together. Who knows?! Good Luck to your DH on getting his elbow replaced and a fast recovery for his shoulder surgery. My mom recommended a book to me, which I have bought for my Kindle but haven't read yet. I am sure it would be something that you could relate to. The book is called "You are an Ironman" by Jacques Steinberg. My mom said it was really good.
