How To Lose Waldo in 10 days-The Trilogy~NEW 10/26 - Final Thoughts; Adios Amigos!

How to lose Waldo in 10 days – The Trilogy

Today’s the big day – we’re going to Disneyworld! The bags are packed, my toe nails are all purtied up and my Flat friend Jen is in my carry-on bag.

I sat here this morning thinking about how this whole trip started. Honestly, the seed was planted over a year ago. Last August I met up with some wonderful DISers by the name of PrincessV, Lauralee131, Sorul82?, and DisneyJo. We had a wonderful night including a meal at Kona Café and topped the evening off with 1 or 21 Lapu’s. In fact we cleaned the Poly right out pineapples. It was a night I’ll never forget and the night a lifetime friendship was born.

Jokingly, we suggested we make this an annual pilgrimage as Jo lives in England and the rest of spread across the US – me in California, V in Florida, and LL and Slate in North Carolina. Well shortly after our return, Jo announced she was returning in August of 2008 and convinced the rest of us to join her. Not that we needed any convincing – we all jumped at the chance to see eachother again and thus a trip was born. NOBarbraStriesand.

Some photo’s of our DIS meet:

Just the DIS ladies!

Our darling kids!

Now we all post on the Team Focker Watch thread and came to find out some other Fockers were going to be in the world at the same time. We decided on a few small meets and then a large gathering for a meal somewhere. Where could we go? Surely not Kona Café or the Polynesian? We’d practically been 86’d from the joint last year. Some how the mention of Biergarten and Wiener Salad came in to play and we finalized that plan. So that’s the meat of this trip report. It’s another Fockerfest, this time the key ingredient is Wiener Salad!

Before going any further, let me introduce myself and my family.

First there’s me – Tracy. I’m a 30-something wife and mother to 2 delightfully charming children. I work part-time in a dermatologists office where Botox is the flavor of the day. I’m completely addicted to Disney and am constantly trying to get my DH to sign on the dotted line. For DVC, of course. We live in Southern California, minutes from Disneyland. All these years I was satisfied with Disneyland until we planned our first trip to WDW in 2006. That did it, I drank the Kool-Aid and was hooked. Whilst Disneyland is cool to have in your backyard, it’s no WDW. And so I am a woman on a mission. A mission my friends, that smells of fresh ink from the signature on a DVC contract.

Then there’s my DH – Andy. What can I say about a man whose life is his family? He’s the sweetest guy ever and sometimes that drives me crazy. I know, I shouldn’t complain, right? Anyway, he loves golfing, video games and playing with our children. He’s a good father and a wonderful husband. I am a lucky girl, even if he doesn’t like Disney as much as I do.

And now for the kiddos.

First we have my 6 year old daughter, Maddie. She’s a combination Pixie and Princess. She’s got a feisty ‘tude and then can be just as sweet as can be. She’s a cuddly kid and loves Disney. It’s a maternal gene, apparently.

Maddie and TE

Next we have my 4 year old DS, Evan. I call him my devil’s spawn. This kid is so mischevious it about kills me. But in a moments notice he can change to the sweetest, most charming little thing ever imaginable. I think it’s best put he looks like an angel, but he’s the devil in disguise! NOElvis.

Waldo and Evan

Coming along with us on this trip are my parents. My mother, aka The Enabler and my dad, aka Waldo. Dad acquired his nickname on our first trip to WDW. See my dad loves to wander and when dad wanders in a crowd, finding him is like playing the game “Where’s Waldo”, hence the nickname. I call my mom The Enabler because she enables my lifestyle. Never take mom shopping when you’re on a budget. She has quickly caught on to all things Fuzzy; fuzzy math, fuzzy spending, and fuzzy savings. She’s taken over the infamous line that once belonged to Lauralee, “You’ve got to spend it to save it!”

I took mom shopping one day and have you noticed that receipts from the department stores now tell you how much you’ve actually saved from shopping? Well, that line is mom’s favorite part of shopping. Anyway, last time we went shopping we spent roughly 96 dollars or so. Well that little line at the bottom of the receipt said by spending 96ish dollars, we saved $90! Well mom thought that was the greatest and came home to tell Waldo how she saved him $90 today. Yup, fuzzy spending and fuzzy savings.

So there you have it. Our happy group of 6. I suppose you’d like to know all our stats, right? Here’s a rundown of accommodations and such.

Vacation dates: August 20th – 29th
Disney Resort: Saratoga Springs Resort – 2 bedroom villa
DDP: Nah, we don’t need no stinking dining plan. NODDPpeeps
Restaurants: Akershaus, Narcoossee’s, Biergarten, Tusker House/Donalds Safari Breakfast, Jiko (hopefully without kids), Mama Melrose’s, Crystal Palace, Spoodles, and Kona Café. Hmmmm… I think that’s it. :

Well, we’re about 20 minutes now until our ride comes, so I better head on out. Can’t wait for our trip and to see all our old friends and meet all our new friends. See you all in a few weeks!!! Adios, amigos!

I laughed so hard on the "the brown people are here"!!

Isn't funny that people assume that because your skin is brown that you automatically don't speak English??
I just laugh at them and say something in German...it really confuses them!!

Hey...why didn't you take pics of the HOT military men????????

Let’s see now… where did I leave off?

Oh, yes. DVC. Heh heh heh.

It was raining pretty good once we finished our ice cream and the very nice DVC people offered to drive us to DTD as Maddie had a BBB appointment in less than 30 minutes. Our nice driver, Bob told us all about the latest weather reports and promised we should have full sun by Friday. We’ll just see about that.

We headed into the World of Disney and made a bee-line for what I affectionately refer to as “Pink Hell”. The Princess area. I noticed a camera crew following a lady and her 3 little girls around. Hmmm… I wondered what that was all about and how I could get in on it. I checked Princess Maddie in and tried to squeeze myself as close to the lady in front of the camera as possible without getting a restraining order against me. As we waited for Maddie to be called, I tried my best to eavesdrop on the conversation the lady was having with all the Disney shirts hovering around.

I got little bits and pieces … “…mention about bringing your own comb” “…be sure to say how they have services for little boys” yadda, yadda, yadda. : It finally dawned on me that she was from Disney’s Mom Panel and they were shooting a commercial for the website.

Our buzzer went off and Princess Maddie was escorted to her chair. She had picked the same flippin’ hair style as last year. Dude, I could totally copy that and save myself a nice chunk-o-cheddar. Oh well, my Princess was happy. I did ask if I could purchase the dress here or would I have to purchase it outside the store. See, here’s a little inside tip I learned last year. They have all the princesses dresses in back in every style and size. BUT, the difference is they’re all steamed and in ready-to-wear condition. Maddie’s FGiT went to the back room and came back with her beautifully pressed dress and matching flip flops. WTH? Flip flops? Since when do Disney Princesses wear flip flops? Oh well, they were gold and they matched. Nuff said.

Maddie Before:

Maddie climbed up on her royal salon chair and the FGiT went to work. I sat and watched and noticed the camera crew come in with the Mom’s Panelist and they started filming. So I did what any good mother would do. I moved around and tried to find myself in the mirror reflection of the little girls being filmed. What? Like you wouldn’t?

Andy had already bailed at this point, but came back with a wonderful surprise for Maddie. Allow me to digress a bit … last year Maddie had found the “My Disney Girl” doll at Epcot on one of our last days. Well, she had spent all her souvie money on other crap and I refused to purchase it for her. A few months later, I found out on the DIS from MizDiz, actually, that the dolls were on clearance so I ordered from WDW and had it sent to our house for Maddie’s birthday. Long story short, she loves the doll and dragged her back to Florida with us.

Ok, back to present day-ish. I guess Andy had been walking around with Evan and found the My Disney Girl outfits, and bought Maddie’s doll a matching Princess gown. He brought it to me and I showed Maddie. When she saw the gown, her face just light up! One of the FGiT asked me if she could dress the doll for Maddie. I sat and watched as the FGiT struggled to hold the doll and open the package. I offered to strip the doll for her whilst she opened the box, with out missing a beat, the FGiT looked up and said, “Sure, Mom… I mean whatever you’re in to.” OMG, I it was so funny! I never thought I’d hear off color comments like that in BBB, it was fantasticly funny!

Maddie was finally done and I told the FGiT that this had to last until tomorrow, as that was when our Princess lunch at Akershaus was scheduled. She gave me a knowingly look and shellacked that hair to no end! :

Maddie After:

Paid up, I called Andy to find that he and the others were outside enjoying a few minutes of sunshine. We met up and found Evan sound asleep in his stroller.

It was now 4:45 and I called to find out if our room was ready. Thankfully it was and they gave us our room number, 9321. We made our way to the boat dock and hopped on our water chariot to SSR. As we sat, and enjoyed the ride, TE motioned to us that Maddie was asleep as well. Boy, I’m glad we brought the second stroller that day!

On our way to the Grandstand, we stopped at Bell Services to let them know we had our room and could they please send our bags up and for directions to our room. They offered us a ride, but with both kids asleep we opted to just walk. And walk. And walk. And walk. Geeze, we walked forever. Almost as far as the Great Walk of ’07. You all know about that one, right?

We finally made it to our room and I was pleasantly surprised that we were placed on the 3rd floor. And in a dedicated 2 bedroom! Whoo Hoo!

Some room shots:

I only got a few pics because I was soooo tired and I had 2 sleeping kids I needed to get into bed.

We had had a discussion regarding room assignments prior to our arrival, and it was settled that Andy & I would occupy the master and TE & Waldo would take the spare room. Well, once we were in the room that all went to crap. TE wanted that master room, so bad that she gave me a huge guilt trip. Which is not uncommon. For TE. So, I reluctantly gave in and we took the room with 2 queens and no Jacuzzi tub. D’Oh!

We got Evan into bed with relative ease. Maddie on the other hand appeared to be the challenge. She was all Bibbity Bopped out and we didn’t want to muss her dress or hair. Andy lifted her out of the stroller and kinda held her up, ala Pinocchio, whilst I stripped her of her royal garments and slipped a PJ gown on her. She didn’t bat and eyelash. The kid was dead tired.

Evan asleep with Flat Jen

We were kinda hungry, but WAY too tired to trip it back to the sucky food court. As we perused the channels on the TV, we noticed they had pizza delivery! Yippee! I jumped on the horn and ordered the works; pizza, salads, dessert and liter of coke.

I sat on the couch and waited for the pizza to arrive. Mind you, I’d been up for roughly 36 hours and my body was ready to just give out. I felt my arms and legs get really heavy and then next thing I knew I was awakened by the pounding of the pizza girl at the door. I must have slept for about 20 minutes, but I felt great. Strangely.

We ate our pizza, cleaned up the kitchen and all headed to our respective “rooms” to get organized and ready for the first park … Epcot!!

And that's when I noticed "it" was missing!
