Yetis, Cannolis, and Mango Green Tea-A WILD NIGHT AT ANIMAL KINGDOM PAGE 38 NEW 1/16

This is my first Trip Report so bear with me... this could be scary!

Table of Contents with Easy Access Links to all the updates are below this first post.

I think I'll start with introductions since I did not do a pre-trippie and it could get confusing without knowing who everyone is. Well, you know what I mean. Purple is going to be my color of choice so as to not get confusing. I'm anticipating lots of visitors and conversation, but that could be in vain...

I'll start with myself. I'm Heather. You all know me as WDWHeather, Heather, PB and various other nicknames I'll disclose for now. I'm 22 and in college studying accounting. And basically my family is great and I'll take as many free family vacations as they're willing to dish out. I think you all know me pretty well so I'm going to move on to the next member.

Next is my sister. We'll call her Ladle. Ladle is a nickname we have for each other. In fact, she calls me Ladle too. She's also on the boards but rarely posts. If you do ever find her, her user name is pirates_are_our_joy. Yes, you can laugh at that pathetic name if you wish. Apparently we made it up years ago when we thought it was "Super Cool" or something... Ladle is 17 and just graduated high school. This was a closed mouth celebration for her really. Well, we say that's why we were going, but really, we were just going because, frankly, we go every year.

Above is a picture of my sister and me. If you've noticed, we do look a lot alike. Despite the five years difference between us, people ask if we are twins all the time. In fact, we walked into a gas station one time and they did not believe we weren't twins until we pulled out our drivers licenses. I will also be adding a count of twin references on this trip. Also, what's the fun of looking alike if you can't play along sometimes, right?

Next is my mom. We'll call her Sally Shine. This nickname will be explained later. If you already know the reference, just sit tight because I will also explain it. My mom is a real estate buff here in New Mexico and works hard all year so we can take these trips. She's a big thrill seeker so she is game for riding anything with my sister and me. Makes a perfect trio on Space Mountain.

Lastly is my dad. We'll call him Garco. That name will be explained a little later when it fits into the trip. He's a huge Cubs fan and I only took him to his first game recently in Chicago. He has a Cubs shirt for every day of our trip and is never seen without his Cubs hat. My dad doesn't ride any of the really fast, dropping, thrill rides. He's more into the less intense rides. He also always carries around his video camera to tape us getting off the rides he doesn't ride... Very strange.

Above is a picture of the whole family on our vacation last year. This is at Sci Fi, a restaurant we frequent.

Now, this is a very interesting group of people, let me tell you that. As with any family, our personalities sometimes clash and make for a most um...odd time. Over all it works out, but there are always those tense moments. Not sure if they're even worth sharing on the report so I might just bypass those and get on with the good stuff...

Airport Catastrophes

Well, I'm feeling inspired to do another update. Two in one day. That's really something!
So let me just say that the most difficult part of any of our family trips is actually getting to the airport. Garco is one of those people who wants to be at the airport at least three hours early "just in case." Sally Shine thinks it only takes five minutes to get anywhere and assumes there will be no line at security. Put those two together and, let me just say, it does not even out to us being there at some reasonable time.

Garco is always pushing and pushing to get us out of the door. Sally Shine is always working until the last possible minute. I'll never forget the time when my parents were going to Phoenix and Garco decided to just let Sally Shine do what she wanted. He sat on the couch and didn't say a word. When Sally Shine decided she was ready, it was about a half hour until the flight took off. They raced off to the airport and, whataya know, missed the flight. They both blame that one on the other one, but we see the problem here

Anyway, Ladle and I are pretty much in the middle of this clash of time. We're generally ready fairly early because we never really know what's going to go on. You'll be glad to know that this trip was no exception. Our flight was at 2:40 pm. That sounds like late enough in the day so that everyone could everything done they needed to, doesn't it?

Now, I should mention that we also have two dogs who we take to the kennel each time we go on one of these vacations. If it were up to Garco, we would take the dogs in the day before. Sally Shine has a hard time being away from the dogs, so again, another clash of time. Speaking of dogs. You know I couldn't talk about them without showing pictures too!

That little guy up there is Buddy.

That one up there is Roscoe.

Okay, back on topic here! Basically, three things needed to happen the day we left. Sally Shine's car, an Explorer, needed to get into the shop, the dogs needed to get to the kennel, and we, with all our luggage, needed to get to the airport. Now, we could not take us, our luggage, and the dogs all in Garco's car, a Taurus. So they needed to get dropped off before we dropped Sally Shine's car off. Everyone with me here?

So...noon rolls around and have any of these things happened yet? One guess. It's a two letter word.... Come on here people. No. So Garco, of course, is freaking out. He's FREAKING and I mean that in every literal sense of the word. Of course, now, Ladle and I are getting worried. Flights to Phoenix are a lot more frequent than flights to Orlando so it's really scary if we miss our flight.

A little after noon, Sally Shine comes home. We found out she hasn't packed yet. Only has her clothes laid out on the bed. So she pretty much throws her clothes in and we're finally off. Phew. We load up the dogs in the back of the Explorer and the bags are in the Taurus. Sally Shine, Ladle and I drive with the dogs and Garco followed behind us. It takes us about half an hour at the kennel because our dogs are special and eat special food and get special medicine. By the way, they didn't even say goodbye to us because they were so excited to go.

Anyway, Garco hops into the Explorer while we're getting the dogs set so he can take it to the shop. So we finally get the dogs squared away and bid them a goodbye, even though they didn't seem to care, and the three of us hop into the Taurus. We head over to the shop and pick up my dad and NOW we are really on our way to the airport.

In case you were wondering, this was not a pleasant time. Our vacation has definitely not started yet. This stress an anxiety will only be relieved when we are at the gate. Did I mention Ladle and I are starving by this point??

My dad decides to drop us off at the check-in so he can go park the car. We take all the luggage, which happens to be four large bags and two smaller ones, to the check-in. Sally Shine gets a phone call while we're in line to check our bags and luckily I'm in control of the boarding passes. We step up to the kiosk and she is still on the phone so I am very, very thankful that I have the confirmation number to plug into that baby. The woman checking us into Southwest laughs at our amount of luggage.

I'm going to make an aside here because I'd like to talk about packing. It's a problem. I like to be prepared for every situation that could possibly arise. Now I had looked at the weather and I knew it was going to be in the 80s, but I also knew that the lows would be in the 60s. That's a little cool for me so I knew I had to bring some jeans, capris, shorts, and skirts. Also, I had to bring my collection of flip flops for every colored outfit, some very stylish Beach Socks, and two pairs of tennis shoes- one pair for the pink outfit days and one for the non-pink outfit days. Yes, people, I have that much pink colored clothing. Anyway, I always think that I have packed "so much less" than I did the previous year. When it comes to the weigh in, I'm always right up there pushing that 50 pound mark. I still don't know why that is.

You may think that I am the worst packer ever, however, there is someone even worse at packing than I am. Yes, people, Ladle is the world's worst packer. So the night before our trip, I decided I would help her pack. We went through her clothes and picked out several outfits with options and everything. I told her that all she had to do was put them in her suitcase and she'd be set. She agreed and we all went to bed. The next day, her suitcase is definitely two times as large as it should be. She decided she needed more clothes than we had originally picked out. Aye yi yi. Her weigh-in is going to be scary.

Okay, back on track here. My bag- 45 pounds. Ladle's- 48 pounds. Amazingly, we all made it and we're all going to Florida. I'm not going to lie, at this point we're definitely past 1:45pm. Security does not look too daunting so we're not getting worried... yet. But where is Garco? The three of us make it through security okay, but still starving. Ladle and I begin to eye up the food as we walk by it to our gate, but we're pretty sure we won't have time to grab food before we board.

At the gate, people are already lined up to get on board. Ladle and I decide we cannot make it through a three and a half hour flight without some food. So I go off in search of some sustenance. The food of choice, Quiznos broccoli cheese soup, mostly because it is the closest food place to our gate. I get in line. I keep looking over to make sure we're not boarding. So far so good. I'm waiting for them to dish up my soup and I hear the announcement that they are boarding pre-boarders for our flight. I was getting a little worried, but, no big deal because Ladle can always save me a seat. I look over and still no Garco. Hmm...

Anyway, I grab my soup and take off. I get there just in time for them to beginning loading the A boarders. And here comes Garco too. It looks like we're going to be just fine. Phew. Finally, we are on our way to Florida with soup in hand and catastrophe averted. Anyone else stressed after hearing that story?

I am! We are packing lite this trip. Only carry-ons. The only shoes we're taking is the crocs we'll have on our feet and only 4 outfits per person for a 4 night trip. Sound crazy? I'll let you know when we get back.

If we could do ME I would so be overpacking but since we have to deal with all the luggage ourselves I'm keeping it at a bare minimum.
