Keep On Treking

I'm going to try not to prolong the trek update too much. But before I continue with the trek story, I have to tell you the Samuel L Jackson story.

When Cynthia and I went through bag check at AK there was a tall guy, with a cast member vest, who was standing where the non bag check people walked towards the AK. He was obviously security. The funny thing about this tall guy was that he was wearing a red and black plaid outfit. It looked like a Christmas outfit. The other guards were talking about him and made the comment, "He thinks he is Samuel L. Jackson over there". Then they said to me "Go on over and say hi to him".

So I did. I politely walked up to Samuel, aka cast member in the red plaid outfit, and said, "Excuse me sir. Are you Samuel L Jackson?" At first he seemed a little taken back, but he quickly figured out that his friends at bag check had put me up to it. He started cracking up and we all had a good laugh. I so wish I had a picture of him because that outfit was something else.

If you don't think its funny, I guess it's because you really needed to be there!

So back to the trek. It was time for us to start our next adventure on the trek!

Yup - that's right! We were going to get to use that harness again. But this time we would be using it on a couple rope bridges.

First thing we needed to do was get our vests attached to another safety line.

Here's Tracy showing us how it's done.

Here's Cynthia making her trek across the bridge....

You go girl!

It was finally my turn. I am sure I decided to go last so I could take pictures.

Don't fail me now bridge!

The only bad part of being on the bridge was that I forgot to put my lens cap in my pocket. I was holding it in one hand while holding the camera in the other. Once I got on the bridge I didn't want to take a chance to try putting that cap in my pocket. I was deathly afraid of losing it.

Some more one handed pictures!

Hello down there!

We actually crossed two bridges separated by a platform

Here's Lonnie bringing up the rear....

Here's the black and white version

More instructions once we got off the bridge platform

Once we reached our final destination we stayed strapped in so we could get a close look at these guys!

Here's our group trying to get a better look. One at a time please!

The crocs were obviously tired. They did not move a muscle.

They look so harmless - yeah right!!!!!

An Artsy Bridge shot

More crocs

I think they are sleeping with their mouths open!

I think this next picture pretty much shows that C and Tracy definitely approved of the trek!

Another artsy shot....

After spending sufficient time gazing at and learning about crocs, we got to ditch our vests and get on our own personal jeep.

Hey people - whatcha looking at????

Continued.......

Our personal jeep took us out on the savannah.

You can tell here that we got to pull off the main road.

So we could see some of the animals in a more up close and personal manner.

A cast member hard at work

Poor Lonnie had to keep her vest on through the whole trek. She knew so much about the savannah animals. I seriously wish they had a CD of her talk. It was fascinating.

See that building off in the distance. That was our eventual destination. But first we got to see a few more animals

We got to stop on the side of the road and watch the elephants

Yes - I do believe I just missed the elephant relieving himself.

Now he was nice and ready for a mud bath

After watching the elephants play in the water we drove the short distance to here.

Inside the hut there were tables set up and waiting for us.

That's our jeep driver taking a break with the girls....

For our viewing pleasure

The pillars all had artwork

Next Up. What's in Here......

To be continued (sorry I couldn't do more - I am just too darn tired tonight)

Great update, MEK. If I showed Mark those pictures of the elephants and how close you were and the mudbath elephant, he would be insisting we go. Maybe now that we're not paying for our resort....I'll have to think about it. Just don't know where we would squeeze it in.

Maybe you should wait until I post the food pictures!

Seriously - its just the morning. Maybe you can juggle something around.

Alright, I'm looking at the pictures from the bridge practically clinging to the arm of my couch. That looks awesomely terrifying. I'm impressed with your 1-armed photography skills, especially while on a bridge like that!

I'm excited to see the contents of your lunch! (It's always about the food with me! )

It would have been terrifying had there not been thick, secure netting making up the entire bridge. Even the planks were really hard not to step directly on. It was a true "Disney bridge", if you know what I mean. No safety issues there!

I stole that phrase from Ranger Joe. He used it quite frequently during his Wilderness lodge tour. Disney wood, Disney rock, disney totem pole!

I know we can't do that Trek on our upcoming trip but I certainly know it's now on my list for "firsts" for our next one! Your pictures once again have sold me!! I think Jasmine would absolutely love it! I would love to see my sister on that bridge too

The trek pictures are just amazing! We saw the bridges & that little building when we took the safari in January (I think it was January). I guess if we aren't doing the trek, seeing all the cool things the trekkers get to do is the next best thing.

It really was very cool AND very safe. Seriously - you did not need a harness to cross that bridge, but I certainly understand why Disney does it.

I should probably download my trek pp now so I can see just how crazy I look on that bridge.

I can definitely see Jasmine doing the Trek.

Definitely. I love to live vicariously through other people's pictures! It's so fun. The Trek was definitely worth doing once. It was a unique experience. It's fun to do something that looks risky, but really isn't. That's my kind of trek.

The trek (minus those bridges) looks like a lot of fun. Definitely something I would like to do in the future when the kiddies are older.

You pictures ,as always, are beautiful !

MEK, I liked your Samuel L. Jackson look-alike story!

I know what you mean about your lenscap. I lost one one time and now I'm paranoid.

That trek looks really cool! Going to that out-building looks like a reward trip on a Survivor episode. Did you find any scrolls with clues, rolled up in amongst the food? And speaking of food, how could you end this post without showing us any food pictures!!

It's too bad Samuel L. Jackson couldn't come on the Trek with you guys! That would have been hilarious!

The trek really looks like fun but I really dont think I could handle those bridges! It's cool that you get an upclose look at the crocs and the elephants! That would be amazing! I'm hoping they'll make a tour that's just all walking through the savannah - on the ground!
