    DL vs. MK

We went to WDW last Nov and DH & I were really disappointed in the MK. We loved AK and Epcot, but MK was a total letdown for us. I have a feeling if we went back to WDW we would be spending very little time at the MK. I would highly recommend AK & Epcot when your kids get older, but I would...

Shopping for new power wheelchair for DD

Sue, We have just ordered DD's (9) first power chair. She's been fortunate to have a loaner at school for the past school year. I've spent to better part of a year looking at the options that are out there, and have been lucky to have valuable input from her PT, OT and the Assistive...

    San Francisco Zoo

I would definitely recommend layers, you really never know what the weather will be like at the zoo! (We went about a month ago and it was sunny in Berkeley and cold and foggy at the zoo!) That said, mid August is actually one of the best times to visit. There is a very good chance you will...

DLH- please make me feel better....

I have stayed at both hotels, and I think the DLH is more fun for kids. For the price difference, I would definitely stay there! The walk is really not bad at all.

    San Francisco Zoo

The big cats (lions & tigers) aren't fed on Mondays, so I would probably suggest one of the other days. Taxis are all regulated, so I think they are all pretty much the same. Ask your hotel front desk for help getting a taxi. You can also take a cable car from Fisherman's Wharf to Powell...

    Rental Van and Motorized Wheelchair

We used Hertz last November and when I explained why it was important to have a van with stow & go seats the reservation center transfered me (and gave me the number in case I was disconnected!) to the Orlando lot and they guaranteed me a van with fold-away seats. (They have Dodge and Toyota.)...

    San Francisco Zoo

The zoo is in San Francisco. It's at the end of Sloat Blvd on The Great Highway. We really love the zoo and have been members for years. The zoo has been undergoing a complete redo for almost a decade, and while it still has a long way to go, the areas that are finished are incredible! I...

Opinions of the Special Needs Book on WDW?

I did buy the book before our trip last fall. I was very disapointed in it. My DD has CP and is non-verbal and in a wheelchair. It had very little practical info for dealing with her needs. I found it really odd that no where in the book was it mentioned that I could go to first aid and use...

    Advice/Help needed ~ 3 y/o in Wheelchair

Sue's advice is very comprehensive, but something else to keep in mind is how you are getting to WDW. If you are flying, I would suggest you think about bringing DD's manual chair instead. If you are going to bring the power chair, make sure and check with the airline & your wheelchair tech...

Any Orlando Locals willing to rent a minivan?

We used Hertz last November and the van we got had the stow & go feature. I made the reservation over the phone and made sure they noted this need. I explained that my DD's wheelchair was not capable of being dismantled and they were quite accommodating.

    Wheelchair/airport question

Marie, We are in the process of getting DD (9) her first powerchair. I'm looking at a Permobile & Invica Tiger (midwheel vs rearwheel drive). Both of these can be equiped with a full recline (different than tilt in space) and the raising capabilitydclfun is talking about. The recline is a...

    Connecting room a medical necessity?

We found this to be totaly true! We're in the same situation as you (DD's 9 now) and hotels in general have always been really great about flagging our reservations with this note. I always call 3 days in advance and really stress how important it is that the rooms be connecting. I wouldn't...

    monorail - one way?

This was kinda what I was thinking! It seemed like it had to go back and forth! Thanks!

    monorail - one way?

This was what I had thought. The CM however, was pretty clear and said the Monorail would only be running from DTD to Tomorrowland and not taking people back to DTD. We won't be there until July 3rd. Is this maybe something that will happen later in June? I'm trying to decide between staying...

    monorail - one way?

I knew the monorail was running a limited route, but I thought it was R/T Tomorrowland/DTD. I spoke with hotel reservations today and they said it is only running from DTD to Tommorowland - one way. This doesn't make too much sense to me. Can someone explain how this is working? TIA

    Can't decide

We love Nov. My DD's birthday is the 17th and the Christmas decorations are always up by then. The weather is generally really nice.

    Really good restaurants?

We really love Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in DTD and Granville's Steakhouse in the DLH. The balcony seating at Brennan's is wonderful. I'm not a big fan of the House of Blues. I don't care for the food.
