    Any more Epcot freebies?

We are taking our first Disney trip in 5 years in January. On previous trips, Innoventions at Epcot had plastic robots you could put together and take home and then some kind of velcro frogs or something. Is there anything like this anymore? Also, is the Coke sampling place still open?

How did Santa "end" in your house?

I almost always work on Christmas Eve and Christmas AND I usually go in at 6 or 6:30am, so Santa was becoming a genuine inconvenience. Last year was the first year we didn't do Santa and my kids (10 and 12 at the time) were disappointed. This year they were thrilled that they got to sleep in...

    DISappointed

Where I work we are absolutely FORBIDDEN to apologize. It is an admission of guilt and supposedly will make us lose a court case. I think we can actually get fired for apologizing. I think it stinks but with how sue-happy people are these days, I guess we have to play it safe over nice.

OT: how to delicately resign from the PTA board

Make an excuse about work/family/whatever you can come up with and quit. Don't look back and don't worry about it. This is apparently a VERY common issue. I had a good friend drive herself completely nuts trying to deal with the never ending drama of PTA in her small town. If volunteering in...

    Experiences with Skipping a Grade?

I have little to offer other than having been one of the youngest in my class. I have a late October birthday and started kindergarten at age 4. It was annoying that I was the last to drive, last to turn 18 and last to turn 21. However, it wasn't THAT big of a deal. And this year I got to be...

    Swimming in December at Disney?

I'm from Illinois, so I'm used to cold winters. I'm not a big swimmer, but my kids will definitely go if it's in the 70s. We've been in Dec and Jan 4 times for a week apiece and have never had a week the kids couldn't swim at least a couple of times. We've had weeks where the daytime high was...

    Anxiety After the Fact?

I'm not sure if it was anxiety or just all the stress catching up, but my dad is a complete workaholic and when we would go on a family vacation, he would ALWAYS get sick. And it seemed like the less busy and stressful the vacation destination (such as the beach) the sicker he got. It was...

    Please delete.

You did nothing wrong. I would definitely invite the boy to the BOY sleepover. I think there will be a distinct difference in his mom's mind between an event that is obviously for boys only and an overnight trip to a theme park that includes a hotel and travel time and is a big deal. I can...

Similar reactions to Santa and Disney characters?

My son turned 2 in November, HATED Santa in December and slowly warmed up to the Disney characters during our January trip. His sister loved the characters so that likely helped a lot. He shocked me because we had seen several characters and just let him hang back, but when he saw Pooh he...

I want to see pics of Disney potato heads~

It's been several years, so my pieces probably aren't up to date, but I had a potato head parts addiction when my kids were young. One thing in your favor is that you have a boy and won't need all the princess pieces, lol. Packing parts became a huge challenge for me and was one of my favorite...

New here and need some advice please!

The first trip I took with kids (ages 2 and 4) we thought we were going at a less busy time, but it turned out to be NYC's spring break and the parks were WAY more busy than originally predicted. I researched and learned some of the tricks like getting to the parks at opening and avoiding the...

    5th Annual Christmas Shopping Thread

I was the evil child/in-law who one year just flat-out refused to participate in ANY more gift exchanges for adults or for kids other than my nieces and nephews. The next year, many more families dropped out and now none of the EXTENDED families exchange gifts. I mean, it was completely...

    Commencement Speech: You're NOT special!

I haven't read all the replies, but I was the kid in the affluent school and town with affluent parents who tore me down. I would have LOVED to hear this speech at my high school graduation! It would have made me feel really good and I would have enjoyed if any of my spoiled, coddled friends...

Gravity Defyer shoes for plantar fasciitis?

The seed of life? Wow. I'm both laughing and rolling my eyes. As a biology major, I'm not embarrassed by sperm. As an introvert who likes boring clothes that don't stand out, shoes covered with sperm are the equivalent of having a huge, exposed tattoo that draws constant comments. Great for...

Gravity Defyer shoes for plantar fasciitis?

I have terrible issues with plantar fasciitis and tendinitis in my feet. Ads for Gravity Defyer shoes keep popping up with claims they will help my pain. The only online reviews I've found are at their personal site, so I'm afraid they only post the good. I'd love to try them, but even more...

    Perplexus anyone??

I first saw it in a hotel gift shop in 2010 and had to have it. The kids still play with it all the time. I think it is the coolest thing and was glad it made its way to the big stores, tv commercials, etc.

    how pack during feb vacation

We've also gone a few times in Feb and we've hit everything from highs in the 50s (mornings and evenings in the 40s) to ~80. We're from Illinois so the kids swam happily when it was in the 70s and we saw plenty of people swimming in the 60s (no thanks!) The pools are heated, but you have to...

    OT-Gift for 12 yr boy w/downs

This may be a regional thing, but I asked my 6th grade daughter what the boys in her school are into and she said Beyblade tops and Dagedar marbles. I know a couple of people with Down syndrome and both would have been very offended to have received a "baby" version of anything when they were 12.

What do you get ungrateful kids for Christmas??

I would get them toys. The loudest, shrillest, most obnoxiously annoying toys you can find. Toys that burn through batteries every 5 minutes. Toys the kids will love and your brother (and wife if there is one) will hate. Instead of "punishing" the kids, punish the parents :)

Great Gifts for kids-post things you've found.

My daughter would love that! Thanks for the idea! She wants an "ice cream ball" that you roll or toss around for 15 minutes and it makes homemade ice cream. I haven't researched or purchased it yet. My (hopefully) cool find for the year was something called Rory's Story Cubes. They are...
