Since you are packing an overnight bag why not stay the night. You would save on transportation and you can stay at Universal and enjoy the City Walk and then be there for the park opening. Mears will arrange for a van to pick you up at your hotel and take you up to Universal.

DTD buses do not run to the parks. You would have to take a bus to a resort hotel and then get on a bus to your desired park. So you are much better off just paying the $11 to park.

Just read the end of your post. DD buses only go to resorts, but you can get to the other parks by bus. You can even take the boat between Epcot and DHS. To get a bus from the MK you must take the monorail back to TT and board the bus there.

If 90 minutes seems too long there is also a dining package that you can get that includes reserved seating for Fantasmic. You still still to arrive early for the best seats in the section but not that early as there is a seperate entrance for those with the dinner package.
