    Layoffs

I work with a lot of different customers/industries in supply chain and many have had layoffs and or hiring freezes. They are uncertain about next year and are being very cautious. I don't see it as an employee market at all right now unless you have a very specific in demand skill set.

    What are you binge watching?

Line of Duty and Unforgotten are shows you may like on Britbox. We are currently watching The Tower as well and enjoyed Shetland.

Took me 3 years but Covid19 finally got me

My case was very similar to yours. Covid hit our house for the first time in December and I ended up with an ear and sinus infection because everything just got blocked. Seemed liked this strain hit my area hard around the holidays. Lots of friends and family also got their first case of it...

How many vacations have you got planned for this year?

We loved our first river cruise on the Danube and we are trying the Douro Portugal itinerary this fall. DH is not a fan of large cruise ships but we found the river cruise to be perfect. Hope everyone enjoys their travels!

    Amazon Smile program discontinued

I was very disappointed and frustrated when I received the email about Smile being discontinued. The animal sanctuary I selected is larger and therefore received a fair amount from the program. I am sure an estimated amount was factored into their forecasting for this year but the program is...

    slo’s Thursday 8/4 poll - Your Last Cruise 🚢

DH is not a fan of ocean cruises but would do another one to Alaska or a smaller ship in the Mediterranean. Our last cruise was fall 2021 on our first river cruise in Europe and we loved it! Have another one planned for next year in a different region.

Great opportunity, not sure which to choose.

Have a great time! Very cool city. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the choices.

I heard a new phrase... Employee Vendor = benefit, and policy changes for work from home status...

I can't imagine being paid less for being remote unless the scope of responsibilities changed....just like I wouldn't expect to be paid more if I had a long commute. I have worked for a large national company for many years. I was remote prior to Covid because my employer decided the expense of...

Great opportunity, not sure which to choose.

Last Oct I was fortunate to visit Nuremberg and Budapest on a Danube River Cruise. I would have loved to include Prague but couldn't extend the trip any longer. My favorite was Nuremberg but I had always wanted to visit. Some of your decision may be based upon your interests. I loved the...

First airline to go maskless (Jet2 - a UK airline), Now British Airways and Virgin Atlantic

We went on our first river cruise this past Oct. Ours had also been rescheduled and I almost did again before we left. It was nerve-racking prior to leaving but we decided to keep our reservation. We loved it and I hope you do too. We actually just booked another for 2023!

Nathan Chen wins the Gold in Men's figure skating

What a talented young man and quite a story on his upbringing. I can't even imagine what it takes to balance his training and academics. Very happy all of his dedication payed off for him and everyone that helped and supported him along the way. Great story!

    Happy 90th John Williams!

I always think of the Boston Pops for John Williams and all of the wonderful 4th of July concerts here in Boston.

    This insane housing market.

It's amazing what a difference the rates make, especially for those of us who have owned homes for many years. Our original rate was somewhere in the mid to high 8's for an interest rate. Current rate on a seasonal cottage is 3%. We've talked about putting extra $ on principle too and our...

    Funeral planning

I am very sorry for your loss. I have planned funerals for both of my parents, with my dad's being last year. (Also Catholic) They were 30 years apart but not all that different with the planning. The funeral home should guide you through the process. They are experts and I am sure they already...

    This insane housing market.

We sold my dad's house almost a year ago. Our market in Boston area is always high but even for here it is crazy! As much as I was grateful for the offers (had a big reverse mortgage to pay off) it made me sad too thinking about how much things have changed since my parents raised our family...

    International Holocaust Remembrance Day

We visited Dachau several years ago on a trip to Munich. Our kids were 22 and 24. It was such an emotional visit for all of us. We heard stories of incredible sacrifice and kindness too but seeing it in person was something that I will never forget.
