IMHO this ride is to intense for a 5 y/o who may be timid. It is a very loud and disorienting bumpy ride. I would worry that the dinosaurs (who are not all friendly) would scare him. My 9dd refuses to ever go on it again.

I would go with the monorail resort also. Since there is another couple going with you maybe you all could take turns watching the children during naptime, while the other couple goes out. You would have to request an adjoining room but it could work out nicely if you all are on the same...

I think it is fun for little ones. They have great pavillions that they can spend quite a while at, for instance the seas with nemo and friends, journey into imagination... Plus I think Epcot is the best park for characters, much easier to get autographs/pics than the MK. And who doesn't love...

Yes, they have most of the accessories for sale at the DTD location (I am not sure about the MK one). Be prepared though, they are very pricey.

The last few hours a water park is open is usually not very crowded. You won't be able to ride everything, but you can do most. The waterparks are so much fun you probley will want to visit them more than once.

I don't know if you want to start out in fantasyland on mon. afternoon. The lines will probley be very long, 60+ min waits. I would start out maybe in adventureland/frontierland and get some fastpasses for the mountains if you plan on doing them. Save fanstasyland for your MK emh night or first...

I totally understand about going with another family that can totally embarass you. My MIL is the queen of it, for example we decided to take her with us when our kids were younger so she could help out. I ended up babysitting her more than I did the kids, but that is a whole other story...

I like TL much better than BB. I think the attractions there are more unique. For example scuba diving at shark reef, crush n gusher is not to be missed, and the wave pool is so much fun. It is like the beach minus the salt water :thumbsup2

I would recommend getting a taxi to go to PO. Then when you are done there get on a MK bus, then take the monorail or boat to the GF. Allow plenty of time for this transfer.
