I just called this morning & couldn't get a premium site for after New Year's, but did get a preferred site, which will be fine. FW must stay almost full all the time now!

Are there some premium sites that have enough sand for a small tent in addition to the big rig?

We have been in very early Jan before & the crowds were small. Had some pouring rain for 2 days then cleared up & got warm! We are planning to go again in early Jan 2016 as well.

My daughter received a PIN for free dining. How does she know what dining plan it is? QS, CS or DDP? We have done the DDP before so would hope that would be it.

DH, DD, DGD (18) & I will be there Jan 3-10 staying in our RV at Fort Wilderness. We have been to WDW several times over 40 years & have only NOT stayed at FW twice. DD is making our ADRs for the dining plan. Love that dining plan, so much fun to decide where to eat! Looking forward to...

We just left the 800 loop after a week's stay at the Fort. We never locked the trailer & left 2 bicycles outside unlocked as well & nothing was ever disturbed. Campers are generally a trustworthy bunch, so I think your gear will be safe where you put it. Have fun & enjoy the Magic!
