Have you already booked your flights to and from Maui for next summer? If not, I'd recommend flying to O'ahu first, then over to Maui, then home from Maui. We spent time on Maui then O'ahu last winter and wished we had done O'ahu first. O'ahu was a big let down for us after Maui.

Are you referring to the Westin Maui Resort & Spa on Kaanapali Beach? We did five weeks at The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach, very close to the Westin, and four at Aulani and thought the sand on both beaches was pretty comparable. The sand for the lagoons is from the island of Lanai.

If you're planning to stay in Honolulu the first two nights, you might want to consider picking up your rental car on Monday in the city. You'd save on two days rental cost and hotel parking. Also, not renting at the airport could save you some $$.

I can't tell you about formal tours, but there were models open on the ground floor while we were there in February and March. They were one-bedroom units. We were told if we wanted to view a grand villa it could be arranged.

I couldn't tell you...this was our first time in the United lounge at HNL. I didn't see the Dole Whip on my trip to the bar, but my eagle-eyed DW didn't miss it.
