    Autism and Interests

Oh yeah, I get totally immersed in my DSs inerests. Currently he's obsessed w/ the Titanic and her sister ship, Brittanic. So, I've read up, watched documentaries, taken him to a Titanic exhibit, watched Cameron's "Titanic" enough times to practically memorize the dialogue... LOL!

    Autism name tags?

They even have Autism temporary tattoos. I found these work best for my son. He hates necklaces and bracelets. He thinks it's so "punk" that he gets to wear a tattoo.

There's another possibility...maybe your DS is gifted. A lot of gifted kids also have LDs or are even on the Spectrum or show signs of other developmental delays. He could be rushing and so on because the work is simply not challening to him and he's bored. A lot of his behavior could be...

my older DS (11) has ADHD, and some other issues. All through his schooling to the 4th grade he was the model student (he's been on ADHD meds since kindergarten) he got A's and B's, was always polite helpful and kind. He had issues, handwriting was (and is) awful, and he needed more time for...

    The Official GLEE thread

Maybe there's more to Bieste than meets the eye. We don't know an awful lot about her background. Could be she's really wealthy and teaches for the love of it. Whatever the reasons I love Bieste! The Artie/Brittney pairing is just so sweet! I adore them together. I'm hoping Blaine and...

I Have NOOO Idea what to get ds11 for x-mas!

Sounds a lot like my son's list! Try Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days for the DS systems if he gets that. My DS11 adores it! He's still playing it even tho' he's beaten it several times.

Exhausted from parenting/ASD children/Welcome to Schmolland!

LOL! So, my lad is a heavy sleeper. This AM proved that to no doubt. We went to wake him up this AM, which usually involves pulling him out of bed and putting him on his feet. After that he zombie shuffles to the stairs, slumps down them and whumps onto the sofa where he'll doze until he smells...

    Fibromyalgia Thread

I'm still here! It's been crazy around here. I started Karate about 5 months ago, I thought the excersize and such would help, and mostly it is... at least with keeping my joints flexible and strengthening my core. However, I broke my left ring finger about 3 weeks ago. The cast makes typing...

    Do your kids Believe?

For my youngest (DS9 has autism and is high functioning) Santa is real. In his mind Santa is part of the pattern of this time of year. The "rules" are that Santa is in parades, at the mall, and is the one who heads all present giving adventures. My older son is 11(ADHD) sort of believes. His...

Exhausted from parenting/ASD children/Welcome to Schmolland!

To help with the potty issue you may want to try noise reduction ear muffs, like the kind they use on firing ranges or such. My DS had a problem w/ flushing noises, too. (and other louder noises) The earmuffs helped a lot! The silly band story is great! We had a similar experience w/ pin...

Autistic DS8 NOT invited to friends party--Crawling in a hole...

Back in April I went to my DSs 2nd grade class to talk about ASD. I let the kids ask all the questions they wanted to about my DS. They had tons of questions, from "what is his favorite color?" all the way to "What does he like to do on play dates." I told them that my DS has never really had a...
