Chateau Ste Michelle wine at Palo

Please be aware, what you had was Eroica, made in conjuction with CSM and Dr.Loosens. It is indeed a superior Reisling, and we have kept several bottles in the cellar since we were introduced by DCL. CSM is good, but not quite the quality product of Dr Loosens.

Palo??? What's the new deal with surcharge and tipping?

Well said. Our server at Palo immediately remembered my wife and I (even after 8 months) and treated my mother and mother-in-law (with us to see what we kept raving about) like royalty. They still talk about it. Tip as though you were out for your best meal of the year (true in our case)...

    Dress codes

Again we will admit, DCL will not correct or remonstrate guests for their attire. That said, after 3 cruises and several visits to formal night and Palo, we can state with confidence that cast members and fellow cruisers appreciate those who make an effort to dress for the occasion. Required...

    Jogging on the ship

0630 to 0730. 3 laps are one mile. We're from MI so after 0730 its too Hot! Wife and I did 5 miles 3 times a week for our last 2 cruises. Made desert at dinner feel like Heaven! Join us on 10-06...

    Cranberry or Pineapple??

Super Wife demanded cranberry juice for her Cabin made Cosmo on 10-04 Magic. Easily available from the bar, same with pineapple juice. Bring a container for storage in the "beverage cooler".

I do not want to dress up for formal night

Love the popcorn reference. We've been posting since 2004 (?!). Again, we thank those that make an effort (tux and/or tie) to help fellow passengers and crew "feel the Magic". Interesting that it is only the men who seem to resist dressing for the occasion. If dressing up and/or dressing...

    Hi from the Magic

Ditto that "Hi From Magic". A fantastic trip with kids and grandma's this time. I was worried the grandmas wouldn't have any fun...haven't seen them except for dinner for 2 days! BTW I'm sure that Cat 3 is great but 3 Cat 10 trips in 18 months is Even Better! Life in steerage has never been...

    Peak/Off Peak Pricing

Again, recommend Passporter by Jenn and Dave, Chart in front of book shows price per time of year. How can you tell the price is best? My family is onboard in the lap of Cat 12 luxury...

    Letter to kids teachers/school

Excuse me while I step up on this high soapbox...my dad once said to the superintendent of our school district "my children's education is my responsibility, not yours". This was in a discussion about a disputed absence for vacation (still brings a tear to my eye...). Inform them that your...

    cheapest time of year

I recommend (again) Jenn and Dave's Passporter. Excellent chart at the beginning that clearly shows price per time of year. How can you tell when it's cheapest? My family is onboard and traveling in steerage (Disneystyle). Remember those hurricanes....

Poll: A Dress or a Gown on Formal Nights

In my "real" life I rarely have anything to dress up for, certainly not in formal wear. I take advantage of formal and semi-formal nights to go all out. For formal night, I always wear a long gown, and have worn a long gown or a cocktail dress on semi-formal nights (beware that there are many...

    Value Season

Jen and Dave's Passporter has the chart of cost per month. We have now done October and May, both the cheapest parts of the year. Cost is often half of peak season and fun is the same. for DCL cruise addicts like my family off season is the only way to sail.

    not getting sick

Off with vacation hat, on with physician hat for a moment... 1. "Flu" shots are for influenza which typically occurs in mid-winter. Yes you should ask your doctor if you need one but it will not help in preventing GI illness on board. 2. Most viral illness (GI and Upper Resp) has a 1-2 week...

    Bringing drinks on board

We carry on 6 bottles of wine for each cruise. We have never had any problem. Prices for wine and beer are steep for modest quality. We usually pour a glass and take it to dinner (our small act of defiance). I also bought beer in St. Maarten and brought it aboard without difficulty.

Question about the exercise room on Magic

About 6 treadmills, basic machines for resistance training, full free weight dumbell selection. Overall pretty limited but not often busy. Jogging on deck 5 (4?) is much more pleasant and productive. if your on 10-9 western DW and I will see you there.

Golden Eagle or 5 Star Adventure

Golden Eagle all the way! It was fantastic, it is the standard by which we measure all excursions. Enjoy.

need age limit for Costa Maya excursion

A note of caution for ruins tours. Many comment boards and books (passporter) note that the tours are long, hot, and not of much interest for younger children. Adults and older teens seem to be the target audience. I know we are deferring for another cruise because of younger children...

    How "formal" is formal night.

Bravo Grumbo, enjoy the popcorn. We wish all a great time. If you choose to enhance the atmosphere with your dapper/ glamorous attire, thank you for your extra effort. I suspect hard working CMs appreciate it as well.

    How "formal" is formal night.

I second Debhart. The dress code is not always enforced but is quite clear. If nothing else one can attend to your appearance on formal night and at Palo out of respect for your fellow passengers and the hardworking cruise staff. Both appreciate your efforts.

Reservations is it a mad house?

The reservation marathon has become a tradition for many DCL veterans. We avoid Disney transportation (too slow and expensive) and make travel arrangements to assure we are in line before 11 am to get on the boat in time to get decent reservations. We were on the 5-1-04 Magic and in line to...
