Your friend is correct. I made my dad eat there when it first opened. He had Green Eggs and Ham sandwich. It was pretty awful.

I'm glad the menu is the same, I love the meatball sandwich and antipasto salad. The sandwich (at Pizza Planet) tasted the same as the one at Mama Melrose, for a fair bit less. I don't have issues with the pizza, it's not on par with Mama Celest, thats cardboard.
