One thing that I always thought was missing on Castaway was a water fall.. So one thing you could go is build your resort facing the other side of the island then hide the back with a water falls. Of course you can build the resort into the new mountain/waterfall, to minimize its footprint...

Just to add a comment to those who may Worry about set down dinners taking to long with kids, If you let your servers know that the kids are in a rush to do something, and serve them 1st, They will have a dinner in front of the kids before you get the 1st course, and then the child can head off...
