VWL Groupies & Lovers Thread (Special Collectors Edition 2.0) updated 21 June 2023

You check in at the main hotel lobby, although BRV does have its own small (and cozy!) lobby. The pools at the resort are very nice and we are big fans of Geyser Point. The lobby itself is worth more than a quick glance; it is stunning! Also, we enjoy using the watercraft to go to the...

    Anyone *enjoy* having MB+

I don’t think they are worth the hype. We had issues with ours on our first trip using them (using to access our room, theme park entry snafus) that didn’t exactly inspire confidence. The regular MBs worked much better for us.

    BLT vs VGF 2 Bedroom

The extra bathroom would almost always be the deciding factor for us. It offers so much extra convenience and is a time saver in the mornings especially.

Best time to take young kids out of school?

Early May is a great time to visit IMO. The weather is warm, but not usually “mid-summer” warm yet. We visited the first week of November last year, but it was much more crowded than we had anticipated. However, the weather was quite nice - sunny, with no rain. And it was pretty warm (high...

    Adding on nights during stay?

The most recent time we did this was last August. We were in a 2-bedroom unit at BRV. Hurricane Idalia was predicted to hit the area early on the morning of our (7:00 a.m.) flight home. We didn’t want to risk getting stuck at the airport, so I booked a studio for one extra night (luckily, one...

Anyone else feeling nervous about these Boeing issues?

This is true for us from Philly. And SWA mostly has only one non-stop in each direction, if that. The last time we flew SWA (2020 or 2021?), the seats on the Boeing Max were extremely uncomfortable to boot. The Airbus jets are a vast improvement IMO.

Does Disney Send Disney Reservation Mail Anymore?

We receive confirmation emails only (DVC members).

    Walt Disney World in August

I can totally relate. We had to do the same for many years (teacher in family). But being prepared does help. :-)

    Walt Disney World in August

The weather can be quite miserable if you’re unprepared for it. Have realistic expectations and it’s certainly doable, but at a measured pace. If we visit at that time we try to eat lighter meals (salads, sandwiches, etc.) and make less ambitious plans (we probably will not park hop). We are...

How many total points do you think each resort will have when it expires and is sold as new?

We purchased our OKW (called “Disney Vacation Club” at that point) in 1992. The incentive then was for free park tickets until 2000. Tickets to AK were excluded. The number of tickets was based on half the occupancy for the unit - 2 for a studio and one bedroom, 4 for a two-bedroom, 6 for a...

Help me with OKW room request

Turtle Pond is a nice area, but the units go back quite a ways, so the closer to the entrance of the road itself, the better for a shorter walk. On our first trip “home” back in 1993, we were in the building right behind the bus stop (33) - the resort was not completely finished; there were no...

Where do DVCers vacation … outside of DVC?

We enjoy cruising (we did the Disney cruise back in its inaugural year and are considering another trip), mostly on RCL. We also enjoy the DE/MD beaches. We’re hoping to spend more time overseas once we are fully retired, especially to Ireland and Scotland, two of our favorite places. :goodvibes

    Favorite DVC Resort

Boulder Ridge. It totally feels like home. I walk into the main WL lobby and I feel the stresses of everyday life melt away. I wish I had not resisted staying there for so long because I thought it wasn’t my “vibe”. Never say never.

Wow those room prices at WDW!!!

We purchased our DVC membership in 1992 when the minimum points were 230. The cost was somewhere in the neighborhood of $60-$65/point. We paid cash, so no financing. Before the purchase we mostly did split stays between deluxe (usually CR) and a moderate (and once at FW). I well remember...

    Contemporary Garden View

The wing rooms are very nice and many prefer them over the tower (my mom was one of them). I like both. Staying in the main building is a bit more convenient, but the elevators are a pain IMO and it can be very noisy depending on where your room is located. The wing is much calmer. There...

Wilderness Lodge - water view room vs Deluxe studio?

For what it’s worth, we stayed in BRV studio #4560 in late August last year and it did have a Murphy bed, which was quite comfortable. This unit had no appreciable view though and we were only there for one night. The renovation at BRV is very nice!

What’s the best and quickest transportation for a family of four no kids?

We find using a car service to be pretty quick. It is the best option for us, but of course everyone’s situation is different. It is more expensive than other options, but you are driven directly to your resort. The driver meets us at the luggage carousel and it’s an easy process. We did use...

Raglan Road or Rose & Crown

Yes, that’s correct! It tides me over until my next trip back to Ireland!

    Quick service fish and chips

We enjoy both, but Cooke’s gets a few more points In our estimation. i don’t think you can go wrong either way though.

Contemporary or Boulder Ridge for 1 night

BRV is pretty much our favorite location and the recent renovations are terrific. However, the CR would win with the convenience factor. It doesn’t get much easier to access the MK on your own schedule. And you would have the monorail as a back-up if needed.
