Last December, I had a stay booked onsite. I made my FP+ reservations at 60 days out. For work related reasons, I ended up having to stay offsite. I cancelled the onsite room within the 30 day window and did not lose my FP+. I am an AP holder, but I don't think that makes a difference.

When I purchased an AP last year, my voucher was emailed to me immediately. I was able to take the voucher number, link it to MDE, and reserve a room with an AP discount. I then picked up the AP when I arrived at the first park. Perhaps you friend already has the vouchers in email form?

Yes, I have done this. However, it was before FP+. I had no problems and had the deposit for the hotel I didn't end up using refunding quickly. Maybe someone else can report on whether cancelling a hotel ressie even if you have another one can potentially mess up FP+. It seems like almost...
