Cruise with 13 year old son

I'm a single mom and just went with my 11 year old son. I could barely get him out of the Edge (kids club for 11-14). This was after i had to drag him to it the first night we were there. Now, I could have used a companion, but he was great -- and I found enough to do too.

    HELP! Last minute Alaska packing

I was on the 8/19 cruise and thought the hair dryer was ridiculous. If you use the dryer to style or set shape to your hair, bring your own. If you just want it dry and don't really care about anything else, the ones on board will be fine.

Divorced daughter traveling with granddaughter on Western Caribbean Fantasy

No, I'm American. I was flying from Los Angeles to Vancouver (2 weeks ago!) and Alaska air told me to make sure i had the notarized letter. It doesn't hurt to have the letter, just in case -- if there is/was another parent around.

Divorced daughter traveling with granddaughter on Western Caribbean Fantasy

When I flew to Vancouver from Los Angeles, Alaska Air told me to have a notarized letter from my son's father with dates of travel, his permission and contact info. My son and I have different last names too, but she said that part didn't matter -- I'd need it anyway. There are all sorts of...

Is it an insult to give only the recommended tip amount?

I guess I'm the exception (and maybe i went overboard) but I can't imagine tipping the server 28 dollars for a 7 day cruise. Even if one asked for nothing extra, those servers run their butts off. $4 a day just doesn't seem right to me.... But, like I said, this was my first cruise and to each...

Is it an insult to give only the recommended tip amount?

I'm glad read this thread. I felt a little less personal attention this morning and wondered if I insulted with my tip. I gave them (server and assistant server) the little brown slips of paper that automatically get charged to your account (unless you go to lessen the amount). Then I gave the...

Leaving Monday -- question about Carry On Bag

What are u bringing for rain gear? We have waterproof jackets and waterproof hiking boots and water resistant pants. Are u bringing umbrellas or anything else? Our jackets have hoods. I've never been on such a big trip. I'm a nervous wreck something is going to go wrong or i won't bring...

Leaving Monday -- question about Carry On Bag

Hi, So we're leaving Monday for the Alaska cruise. This is our first cruise. (So excited!) As for carry on bags that you need with you when you first get on the ship -- can it be a small roller bag or does it have to be something you can carry on your shoulder? If it can be either one -- any...

What documents -- Alaska Cruise? Luggage tag ? too

So my son (11) and I are going on the Alaska cruise through the Vancouver port. It's our first cruise. We have passports -- do we need birth certificates or any other documents? Should I make copies of all our documents in case we lose them? Along the same lines, I know I'm supposed to...

Dining, Main seating or Second Seating

I'm doing an Alaska cruise in August and chose main seating. It's just me and my 11 year old son -- but after reading this, second seating might be preferable. Can anyone tell me what times the seatings are? (this is our first cruise) I thought main was at 5:45? When is second? Thank you.

    Wifi in us ports?

If you buy the Internet package, can you use the Internet on your own device anywhere on the ship? Even your room?

    Helicopter help

So I booked the helicopter / dog sled excursion on our upcoming Alaska cruise. I'm a nervous flyer, but DS really wanted to do this and I've read nothing but amazing reviews of this excursion so I decided to go for it. That being said, can anyone give me any information on what a helicopter...

    Alaska Excursions--post your reviews here!

Hi -- So based on a lot of the reviews I booked the helicopter / dog sledding excursion. People have raved about it and my son really wants to do it too. I have to admit -- I'm afraid of the helicopter ride. Can anyone tell me what it's like (no detail too small). Any tips? I'm hoping the more...
