OT- when do your kids return to school?

We homeschool year round, but our "official" school year with our charter school is the first week of August through the first week in May.

    Educational Opportunities

We homeschool, so we had a lot of activities to do while preparing for the trip. I don't know how old your kids are, but my youngest is 8 and in 3rd grade. We spent a week learning about each of the countries in Epcot, the basic geography of the country, basic phrases, a cooking project...

To Rent or Not to Rent.. A Car

We just got back last night, and we had a fantastic rental rate through Budget and used the car in favor of transportation. We have a special needs child who may or may not have been ok on the buses, but we found driving to be faster, more reliable, and more comfortable. Parking was included...

    Nail Polish Colors this spring?

I'm usually fairly conservative polish wise, but I found a glitter that I'm in love with. It's red and gold so it really pops. Generally I dislike any glitter polishes, but this one actually has very fine glitter, so it's not bumpy, and it has opaque coverage. The color reminds me of a 70's...

OT: Sensory Processing Disorder and Occupational Therapy

That sounds more like dyspraxia mixed with SPD, but often the two go hand in hand. My youngest has high functioning autism, and his initial diagnosis was SPD (mostly sensory seeking with very little defensiveness). He would spin to the point of vomiting, had no idea where his body was in space...

    Cleaning a stroller?

I had a Chicco which was the same as the Pliko and I could remove the covers. In the back, the padding snapped on, and I was able to remove snaps, clasps, etc. I washed it on delicate in the washer, and hung dry it so it wouldn't shrink. Strollers have to be washable, imagine the funk it goes...

disney princess dress and biracial child please read

My son is of mixed decent and I don't think I have ever looked at him and decided he shouldn't be something because of it. He doesn't identify as not being fully Caucasian, and didn't even realize it until he was 13. It was th funniest conversation I have ever had with him because he didn't...

Disneyland w autistic 8 year old

We've only had experience at Disneyland and it was really great. My son turned 7 on our visit, and his OT suggested a GAC to help out. I didn't think we needed it, but she was right, it was really helpful (he FLIPPED out with some of the scenery in line, too much talking noise that he couldn't...

How many days, until your WDW trip?

2 days until our first trip to WDW! Lots of errands to run today, put a stop on mail service, buy stamps, pick up prescriptions, etc. The kids are jacked!

    And its starting :(

We leave on Saturday, and my heart sank last night when my son puked in bed. Thankfully it was just caused by reflux, but I was watching him like a hawk this morning, and he was fine (asked for tacos for lunch, has been drinking a tin of water, etc.). His reflux lasted until he was 7, so we...

How do you sit on an airplane with 4?

We have two adults, and two kids and are flying out on Saturday. We're splitting one adult per child, and will sit with two in front. We were having a really hard time figuring out how to split up because both of the kids are special needs and they need at least one adult, but an additional...

    Money management for kids

My two have saved quite a bit of money, and are planning on taking it with them when we leave for WDW this weekend. Both of the boys are incredibly intelligent, yet have a major case of absent minded professor to their personalities, which causes me some concern where their money is concerned...

    Tablet for DD's

I just upgraded my sin's iPad off of Craigslist and got a fairly good deal. It's an iPad 1 with 64GB, 3G, and wireless for $225. Hs old iPad was 16GB, without 3G and I believe we also paid $250 for it. We sold it for $225, and so out of pocket for the upgrade was $25. Personally with kids...

It leaves at 10:15 PM and arrives at 6 AM in Charlotte, and we have a connection around 8 in Charlotte on US Airways. What could possibly go wrong :rolleyes1:rotfl2::confused3: All that matters is we all arrive safely at our end destination. Everything else is an adventure.

FREAKING OUT!!! About air travel in a few days

I'm thinking our red eye with a connection in Charleston leaving out of SFO with two special needs kids will be a LOT of fun lol. Hopefully uneventful and a little boring.

May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

I had a rental rate of $16 per day for a compact car through Carrentals.com with Advwntage. On a whim, I decided to check Advantage directly tonight and my rate is now $10.40 per day for a week. We were on the fence regarding keeping the car for the entire week, but after seeing that rate, it's...

Books to learn more about ADHD

There is a huge overlap between ADHD/ADD, giftedness, and autism and they can look very similar. We were told so many times before our autism/Aspergers diagnosis of our boys that it was giftedness, or ADHD/ADD. I knew it was something else, not just kids who were gifted. I have one child who is...
