February 9, 2013 - Magic out of Galveston??

I am on a conference call right now, not thinking about anything conference call related. Is it time to board the MouseBoat yet??? :rolleyes1

    Galveston Mardi Gras

I used to live there. It's a good time, well-run, and not too out of control like in other places. The parades are fun (and they're all listed on that website). I believe it's $10/person to get down on Strand where the main events are. (Trust me, it's better this way--it was getting to be a big...

THANK YOU for this reminder. We used to sell all that Guy Harvey pirate stuff at our store. DD has a GH pirate hat already that she can wear as part of her ensemble. YAY!

All Things Galveston (Updated - 5/21/14)

Sure! :) The Original is more TexMex, Rivera's is more "authentic" and also features Salvadoran dishes. Pick whichever best suits your palate. We ate at Rivera's almost weekly for years. :)

    Port of Galveston question

I lived in Galveston from 2006-2010 and owned a few businesses on the Strand and beach. My suggestions: Family-friendly dining--Casey's (39th and Seawall). Casey's is the casual-dining option from the Gaido family, who have been Galveston dining institutions for more than 100 years. Gaido's...

All Things Galveston (Updated - 5/21/14)

The Original on 14th and Market or Rivera's Mex-Sal on Broadway (doesn't look like much, but is really good)

All Things Galveston (Updated - 5/21/14)

I wouldn't say the Galvez is "kid-friendly." Meaning that it doesn't cater to kids...by the same token, I would never say it's kid un-friendly. It's a beautiful historic hotel (built after the great hurricane of 1900.) If you won't have a car, the Galvez is in a great location for you. You can...

All Things Galveston (Updated - 5/21/14)

Your best option is going to Casey's on Seawall. Casey's is owned by the Gaido family, who (obviously) owns Gaido's next door--a 100-year legend on Galveston Island. Casey's is more casual dining (if you like fine dining, definitely just suck it up and go to Gaido's. Order the Shrimp Pegues and...

All Things Galveston (Updated - 5/21/14)

I'm 21 pages late to this party, but I lived in Galveston from 2006-2010 and owned a few stores downtown and on the beach. So, if you have any questions about Galveston, I'd be happy to answer what I can. We are cruising in Feb and this will be our first trip back to the Island since we...

    Transportation and Hotel Galvez

The Galvez is a very nice hotel, built after the great hurricane of 1900. I wouldn't say it's "kid friendly" but it is not "kid un-friendly." Many families stay there and love it. We lived in Galveston for 5 years and a friend of mine is the PR Director there. It is right across the street from...

    Cruising with 4 Month Old

That's exactly why we are taking advantage of Kids Sail Free. We'll be sailing with a 4 month old. And bringing grandparents. And you will not be able to get them on the ship if you don't tell Disney. They still have to have a ticket and ID to get on board the ship. You'll risk forfeiting...

February 9, 2013 - Magic out of Galveston??

I just requested to join the Facebook group too. (You'll know it's me because my profile picture is a book cover... that's my first book that releases while we're on the cruise! YAY!) My parents will be on the cruise with us as well, but they're not staying in our cabin. It's all about the free...

It's official Disney cutting Galveston short

I owned several small businesses in Galveston from 2006-2010, one of which was within short walking distance of the cruise terminal, so I'm very familiar with the ins and outs of Galveston cruising. Carnival and RC have developed a true following out of Galveston, especially Carnival because...

February 9, 2013 - Magic out of Galveston??

I'm totally late to the party, but we just booked on this cruise. So excited. Our first Disney vacation of any kind as a family. It'll be me, my husband, a 4 year old celebrating her 5th birthday on the cruise, and our new 4 month old and my parents. I'll be the one with the little redheaded...
