If you buy Riviera resale, you can only use the points to stay at Riviera. If you buy Riviera direct and eventually sell the contract, the buyer can only use the points to stay at Riviera. That tends to make the resale value of Riviera lower.

1. Figure out which resort you want to make your home base. 2. Look at the point chart for that resort. Figure out how often you want to go, at what time of year, and in what kind of room. That will determine the number of points that you need. 3. Decide between buying direct or buying resale.

Your first step should be a stop at the point charts -- figure out approximately how many points you need/can afford and go from there. AKL isn't a bad purchase if you enjoy staying there, and it has unrestricted points (you can book anywhere at 7 months except Riviera and potentially any new...

Not sure what your total budget is, but two weeks is a long time. I'm planning a 7-8 night December trip for 3 people, and tickets, estimated airfare, lodging, and ground transportation already takes us to 6k.

How is this even legal? I bought a mostly stripped contract, so I'm in no rush to have points added, but we closed almost a month ago and got our activation code 8 days ago.

Hi all, our first contract closed on Feb 15 and I just received the activation code from Disney, but I don't have the Club ID. Will that come in a separate email or is there somewhere else I can locate it?

In your situation I would vote for AKL. Or, I know you said no monorail resorts, but I'd consider BLT for the ease of walking to Magic Kingdom with young kids.

Walk to MK, monorail to Epcot.
