    Berating cast members

We were disappointed when this happened to us, but our server explained nicely that it was just state law. It was a bummer, but certainly not our server's or Disney's fault; complying with state law is perfectly reasonable, even if the law isn't super awesome. We were celebrating our 17th...

Best place for lunch... LAX to Grand Cal

We usually walk to Garden Walk after checking in; my wife likes the Cheesecake factory there (and there are a few other choices too).

    Breakfast Options

Our best breakfasts were at the Carnation Café. We tried it once and it was amazing. Something about eating on Main Street, watching the morning unfold. We did it a few days later again, and it was more amazing. There is something special about watching people on Main Street while eating an...

Recent Shuttle & Transportation reviews from LAX?

You may need to call the DL express 800 number from other hotels (but our experience was fine this year from the DLH).

Is there a "rope drop" during MM?

I asked a CM about this last week and they had a great answer: there is a rope drop sometimes, only when there is something on the stage. So if there is a work truck somewhere in Fantasy land (or Tomorrow Land) they will put the rope up, and the non-stage staff/items will be gone by rope drop...

    Breakfast? Which place is best?

Steakhouse 55 has one of the best breakfasts at the resort, and it doesn't often require reservations (in our experience at least). Prices were pretty standard for the resort; more than Denny's (but better food). We also really enjoyed the Carnation Cafe, as you can sit looking out at Main...

What are evenings like in Disneyland when lows are forecasted as 50?

We were there this week: the highs were in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. We wore hoodies in the early AM and late PM with shorts or jeans most of the week. We were a bit cold one night, but hats/hoodies helped as did huddling together while watching Fantasmic/parades. We just stashed...

Fried Green Tomato Sandwich Returns at Cafe Orleans

Last week we tried both the Fried Green Tomato sandwich and the Chicken Muffuletta sandwich (AKA: holy-crap-batman-that's-a-lot-of-meat sandwich). We split the FGT sandwich; it was a bit blander than I expected, but it was enough for two people (with a starter of Pommes Frites). It looked like...

    How Many Days?

We just came back from a 6-day-in-the-parks trip (a 5-day, plus a 1-day, both from Airmiles.ca). 6 days was just about right for us, as we got to see all the major shows and we hit most of the rides more than a few times. We do find that early entry / magic mornings do make a huge difference...

When to line up for parades?

We love watching the parades on the busier days for some reason; there's not much you can do when it's busy anyway, so the shows are a great alternative to rides. We hang out on Main Street starting a few hours before the parade and grab a spot on the curb as spots start to disappear. If it's...

Flying in to LAX that bad?

We've always had great experiences flying to/from LAX. We found this week that flying out of LAX was even faster; they've improved the checkin/security process enough that it was less than 30 minutes total, and the other improvements around the airport are pretty solid too (charging stations...

    Fantasmic Dining at Blue Bayou

We recently did that Bayou/Fantasmic dining package; we didn't get the cushions (which looked like thick yoga mats), but many others did. I think it depends on your server or something. We didn't need the cushions anyway as we had a blanket to sit on. The area wasn't super crowded, but it was...

    Soarin' shut down in November?

I checked yesterday and it wasn't there. Bummer.

    Cafe Orleans or Carnation Cafe

Cafe Orleans is our family's favourite Disneyland restaurant. Beignets, pomme frites, gumbo, and a great view.

    Best pool

The Howard Johnson has a pretty great set of pools. One for kids with all sorts of water fun, one for swimming. We stayed there when our kids were 9 and 11 and they loved it. The other motels we've stayed at had reasonable pools, but the HoJo had something that was special.

    Canadians - Park Hoppers?

That's what we do too. If we need an extra day or two, we order them from the Disneyland Travel Company.

Staying at the DLH! Help me make the most of it!

Take some slow time and sit in some of the outdoor seating areas, take in the sounds, sights, and relax. There is music piped around the hotel grounds, and great food/drinks available from the Tangaroa Terrace / Trader Sams.

    Discount after booking?

Yes, do this: call every day once the discounts are posted. I wasn't able to call this year until a few days later, and thus far there haven't been any rooms left under the discount.

    Discount after booking?

I think it depends who you've booked through. I called the Walt Disney Travel Company and they said they could apply the discount if rooms were available in the discounted block (they only discount a certain number of rooms per room type). When I called a few weeks ago, there were no rooms...
