Neuropathy in hands from pushing wheelchair

All very good advice. In particular, making sure to vary your hand position can make a big difference.

Portable wheelchair - what size rental car?

I can't speak to the size of your chair because I'm not familiar with it, but I can say it does vary some even within a size category. For example, last time I rented a car we were planning on using a Dodge Caliber, but once we got there is was apparent that the chair would not fit. We picked...

WDW -Disability Access Service (DAS) - ARCHIVED THREAD; no longer vslid

Good list. A couple that could be added if they are not slightly off-topic: Star Tours: They have been giving return times out since it reopened (can't remember if they did before). They do this because you can't use the standard queue in a wheelchair/ECV because of the stairs. TSMM & KS...

    ECV vs. Wheelchair

The only thing I can think to give you an idea of how difficult using a manual wheelchair in the parks is this (imagine doing this, or try it, if possible): In a multi-level parking garage, imagine (or try) pushing someone up a few of the ramps. The parking garage is not as difficult as the...

    Restroom Question

Agree with this so much that I didn't even take time to think about what I would add to it.

Tell me about Bay Lake Tower

Ditto to this. I loved how easy it was to go to and from MK. It is especially great if you are leaving the park after Wishes or at park close with the crowds. It was nice to look at the monorail, boat, and bus lines and realize I don't have to wait.

What rides can you not do that you wish you could?

The two I can't ride are Peter Pan and the People Mover. There may be another, but I can't remember. PP is really the only one I'm curious to ride with the family. I'm wondering how much longer I will be able to do the floor to wheelchair, those are tough. I'm already looking for...

How hard is a wheelchair to use at WDW?

Try this to give you an idea. Go up the inclines for a few levels in a parking structure. That would give you some idea of the difficulty involved in a day at WDW. Add to this that you will be covering many miles each day.

    Invisible on wheels?

Not usually the kind of backsides you would want to be level with either. :) It would be nearly impossible for an ECV to do that at Disney, for sure (they might never move). I use a manual wheelchair, so there is nothing about seeing me move around that would make someone think "vehicle"...

    Invisible on wheels?

You do miss some things, which is true for me too even though I am obsessively observant year round and used to avoiding people. I tend to be looking down to avoid feet or looking ahead which means a lot of bums (British slang, not homeless people). Both are funny, but I probably laugh more...

    Invisible on wheels?

That's one of my favorites. I had a woman who was looking the opposite direction she was walking and ran into me while I was sitting completely still. She turned back and looked at me like I had done something to her. It was hard not to laugh right at her. As far as being invisible, I have...

    Wheelchairs in the Snow

Sounds like it could not be a lot of fun. I started wondering about this a few years ago (how difficult it can be from day to day, changes that have to be made in the winter planning out your day, possible changes to the chair, etc.) I have also spent time wondering if I need to be looking for...

    Wheelchairs in the Snow

I live in an area where it doesn't snow a lot and when it does, it melts quickly. I have traveled to some places with snow, but just short trips. I felt like a snowplow trying to go through the snow. My question to those who deal with snow much of the year: what is it like using a...

This should definitely help with our planning! Free wait times and FP returns!

I think I know how he does it. He is a wizard and uses his magic. I would stop talking about how he does so he doesn't turn you into a toad.

    GAC gotchas at WDW

Great answers. I think it's all been covered. Sue always reminds people of this, but I don't think it can be repeated too much. Even people I know who I have corrected before think GAC's are a designed shortcut. A number of times I have had a longer wait than if I could use the stand-by...

    Paraplegic on roller coasters?

I'm sorry I missed this thread when I was looking this week. I don't post frequently, but I am usually looking to see where I can throw out some of my knowledge that might help or just make someone feel more comfortable. Everyone has covered it, I think. I would say that Bill is right that he...

Handicapped Man wins Small World Lawsuit

There are people that do this all the time. Obviously he was awarded this amount on a technicality. I know I waited for about the same amount of time on Splash one time when it broke down. I can't imagine someone could get money every time a disabled person was on a ride that stopped for a...

Interesting experience at Big Thunder last night

Sue - You are, of course, right. I forgot that BTMRR has the alternate entrance because of the loading/unloading of the ride. I don't know the sensory disorder policies for each ride, which is the other reason I didn't want to comment on the people and their validity for being there. I hope...

Interesting experience at Big Thunder last night

I don't have enough information to form an opinion, mainly because I don't know why these people had GAC's. This is what I do know. At BTMRR (and splash as well), wheelchairs have to use the exit to get on the ride because there are stairs in the queue. Everyone with a GAC would not necessarily...

BLT rooms and views with picture links! Last update of post #1 10/21/2015

Not a big deal but in original post rm 8012 is listed as 1BR, just wanted to mention it's also accessible. We stayed there in Oct '12. It was great. Kids loved the fireworks every night.
