Middle School Teachers -- opinions needed UPDATE, new question post 73

I agree that you are wise to have the conversation. Give the teacher the benefit of the doubt (says the recovering MS English teacher who had a class of 38 in an urban school where kids had to work twice as hard to overcome some hard things). You might want to say something like: (Kiddo)...

Just Back - Handicap Parking at Animal Kingdom

I went with my parents and my dad needed accessible parking. I was driving and tried to drop him off as close the entrance as possible but it was a challenge. I parked in the non-handicapped parking b/c I realized that with the tram I was better off (for him) to have a ride to the car than to...

Well, I'm the worst mama ever.

That is a great idea! You can now have it a family tradition for Thanksgiving, like saying Grace or talking about what you are thankful for... Yesterday, my son has session 1 of a play group at a friend's house. Son 2 had a hip hop class. I put off the play group b/c we are too busy, but...

    Waldorf Schools:Anyone familiar ?

[ Thanks for this. What you say about movement & woodworking might be a great fit for him. I'm glad you found a place that fits even if it just for now.

    Waldorf Schools:Anyone familiar ?

Thanks for the idea. We keep switching churches, too, in search of one with an emphasis on social justice vs. wardrobe. (JK) We found a good one this year and I'm pretty happy with their approach to service. The prayers are the same, but the community differs, if you know what I mean. I'm...

    Waldorf Schools:Anyone familiar ?

The multi-age idea is pretty attractive in an educational model. I remember at 19 (college) being so shocked my brother, who was 22 had friends from work in their 40s, 50s. We focus so much on what a 22 month old should do, and who is 20% behind. It seems like some older kids could learn...

Tell me about your Honda CRV.. thanks!

I have a 2007 CRV and we are about to go minivan. I'll really miss it. It drives very well in the rain or snow. It fits into parking spaces easily. It have enough umph and it does better on gas than a lot of cars. Big fan.

    Waldorf Schools:Anyone familiar ?

In our community, the Montessori programs (6 or so of them) all really want kids to start early. My son was on 3 waiting lists when he was 3. When he got a spot, he was still using pull ups (see the note about poor gross motor planning-the include pulling up undergarments) so I the Montessori...

    Waldorf Schools:Anyone familiar ?

Sort of both. He was evaluated last year. They came up with "OHI" (Other health impaired) for low muscle tone, and attention, and some poor motor planning (clumsy with bad handwriting). But they found that part of his distraction was that his IQ was high. The highest the principal & counselor...

    Talk to me about minivans

Thanks for these ideas! I'm in the market, too. The NEW Hondas have a converter in the 2nd where a baby seat can be slid up towards the front. Pop a pacifier right back in there. LOVED THAT.

    Need Black Friday ideas!

Have you registered with www.joeshopping.com? It is for shopping online but is also a social media site. Users review stuff to earn points, and those points become discounts. Put some insomnia to good use. LOL I won a big contest the month it launched. Won't say how much, but more than...

    Waldorf Schools:Anyone familiar ?

Thank you! He learns differently than most kids, and I'm tired of blaming the school for not being "it" for him, YKWIM? I don't see how that could improve but I see him slowly losing his love of learning. When he thinks outside the box, after he's mastered the content, he loses points for...

If you bring food/bottle of wine to a party

My brother and his wife LOVE wine. The put dots on the bottles so they remember which were cheap and which were $$$ so they don't bring a $50 bottle to a picnic or open a $9 bottle first. My mom always buys $4 wine, so when we get together I'm like, "Let him bring the wine!"
