Taking a long Disney break-not so magical trip

Sucks you had a bad trip. We just got back and had a really good time but I agree it seemed much busier than usual. Ride times for pretty much everything were in the 40 minute range all week, and we noticed a lot of operational issues that made things worse, i.e. Lines out into walkways even...

8 Day Trip Report, First Time With Grandparents 10/13 to 10/21

First time trip reporter, just back from an 8 day trip to WDW. Background - Wife and I have roughly 8 trips total to WDW (we are mid-30's), our daughter has 3 trips to her credit, she is 3. My parents came with us, they have been to WDW one other time, 30 years ago when I was a child. I'm going...

    Disney Vacation Account Ending

Just to alleviate some potential fears, the eGift card they issue is a full gift card, with full account number and pin. These aren't like the Disney store ones that you have to carry around on paper. So you can immediately put them into disneygiftcard.com. Nice to have the 5%, disappointed...

    Alice in Wonderland?

Alice in the UK Pavilion is amazing. My daughter was wearing a matching dress at 2 and Alice spent a ton of time with her, walked her up and down the flower garden, picked flowers, it was so cute.

    Haunted Mansion- skip stretching room??

We did this with our daughter at 1.5 and it was no problem. We just told the castmember at the entrance that we wanted to skip the preshow, they had us wait at the opposite wall and then a cast member walked us through the back way which takes you to the other side of the stretching room.

    Buying DVC solely to rent

I get you really want to do this, and it seems like there is no stopping you. But notice one of the words in his post was "luck". Great timing makes any investment look good. I guess I would ask again, why is this the best possible investment option for you? If it is just because you want it to...

    Buying DVC solely to rent

If you want to maximize income, I can't see a 9 year break even, with lots of variables beating any normal diversified portfolio. You are concentrating risk, introducing currency exchange risk, and potentially increasing tax liability, but to be fair I'm not Canadian tax law expert :) Not to...

Cant miss things with toddler!!! help..

Went with my daughter at 22 months, had no problems on any of the rides, Voyage Under the Sea, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Peter Pan, and Small World, even did Pirates and Haunted Mansion (depends on the kid, but if you ask to skip the preshow it works well). In Animal Kingdom there is a huge play...

    How do you pay dues?

Don't forget ebates gives 1% at BJ's. So 5% off at BJs for the $100 card, +2% back on a rewards card, +1% back from ebates, +~2% from the vacation account. That makes the total cost just over $90.20 for a $100 card. Assuming you don't have a 3% cash back card. Not bad getting 10% off on dues...

Waiting for Rest of Fall 2015 Room Only Discount

Nothing at Boardwalk, disappointing round of discounts. Never going to pay that much for a deluxe, just not worth that much to me, looks like full price at riverside.

Waiting for Rest of Fall 2015 Room Only Discount

I'm in the same boat, looking to book Riverside for late October, so just waiting for some good room only discounts :)

    Confused About Booking

Makes sense, I wasn't looking at point values just crowd calendars. Thank you!

    Confused About Booking

Thanks for the help everyone. I understand that Bay Lake and Boardwalk were long shots, but I assumed Saratoga would be available at the 6 month mark. Is there any insight into why this time period is so popular with DVC members when it is not one of the busiest seasons for hotel reservations...

    Confused About Booking

I have recently started to consider purchasing DVC, so I thought I would try to book a rental. I contacted David's and started the process. I had heard that booking could be tough unless you book a ways out. Well it was right around 6 months until we wanted to vacation in WDW, so I thought I...

    Unusual Pirates breakdown?

I have been stuck on pirates in WDW twice where they had us rock from side to side. Didn't seem to be a weight issue as our boat was mostly kids both times, and this was pre-mermaids, once in April and once in October.

Ever been stuck on a ride?

I'm surprised at anyone who has never been stuck, I must be unlucky. Most memorable was just a month ago we were on Pirates. We got stuck for about 30 minutes, they cycled and turned off the sound for awhile. But the best part was a cast member with a flashlight came out and had us put our hands...

What strategy did you learn here on the DIS, that just didn't work for your family?

Sounds like we all have some common ones :) Mine are: 1. Rope Drop - Not happening. Vacation is when I get to actually sleep in. I'm not setting an alarm. We do it occasionally for Harry Potter World early entry but that is about it. 2. Mid-Day Break - Not very doable at Disney World for...

Disney 'Magic Band' RFID bracelet revealed!!

Since it is based on RFID they don't need to track the bracelets by transmitting anything as complex as wi-fi, they just need short range scanners at various points of entry (rides, shops, easily hidden). I'm guess they are using an em based RFID that is powered by the short range scanners that...

Cosmo Slush at the France stand

We had one a few weeks ago. Not too sour. It was a great drink overall, probably the best we had all night with a close second going to the Sam Adams Chocolate Bach.

What is bubba gump like? Is it worth it?

We have eaten at Bubba Gumps in Denver and in Santa Monica, neither were very good. Overpriced, comparable to a Red Lobster in my mind.
