October Universal/WDW/DCL TR Part the First

Part the first…Hard Rock Hotel, Harry Potter & HHN It seems that I'll be posting this in 3 separate Trip Report forums. The Universal portion here. Look for Part the Second in WDW TR and the DCL..well, you get the picture. It was upper 80's and clear all week. Small rain shower on Cruise...

    US/IOA First Week of December

We've traveled in early December for years. Two year ago WWoHP was busy by mid-day but the rest of the parks were very open. I was going to say rides were walk-on but we had the Universal Hotel FOTL pass :) Thast said, the parks were real slow for us on a Sat & Sun. Before WWoHP was...

First time at MNSSHP....tips for a strategy?

As a 'glass half full' kinda guy, I'm hoping the crowds thin out next by the 16th.

First time at MNSSHP....tips for a strategy?

Advice noted. We'll head over right after dinner. I nominate myself to leave dinner early and get a spot in line. Oh well, I guess I'll pick up the check next time :)

First time at MNSSHP....tips for a strategy?

We've been to a few of these parties and you are on the right track. Decide what's most important for your group. If the characters are not your bag then you can skip those. Altho, there are a few characters that appear only here. We love the 7 dwarves and will make getting a picture with...

    Best Breakfast Buffet

We thought the breakfast buffet at Tusker House with Donald was great.

    Tweenage Blues

We're leaving October 12 with our 12yo. boys Gonna try a strict regime of bad food, thrills, & general silliness. :) For real tho, I like the 'choose your battles' advice. And on vacation I choose no battles. Boys may be different than girls but vacation often brings out the positive in...

    new to the darkside need some input;

That 'V' visualization is genius! If you take the boat you are dropped off at the point of the 'V'. HRH is closer to Universal and RPR is closer to Islands. I'd say it about 5-10minutes between the entrance plazas of the 2 parks.

    Buffet tipping

We tip at the buffets. We'd usually be closer to 15% than 20%. However, we often top 20% for exceptional service. A friendly server, or assistance with picky kids, wrangling the Characters or whatever can bump up the tip. We'll also slip an extra $10 to the bus-boy if they've been on top of...

    Kid riding on adult's ECV

I feel I must confess that I've violated this ECV No-Rider Policy myself. One morning my wife drove most of the family from BoardWalk to DHS. I took my MIL's rented scooter on the walking path. I drove my 5yo son. It was a nice quiet ride and we enjoyed the time. We were alone so I only...

    sleep/resting in parks..

The first aid stations are savior when they are needed! You could try my dads old plan. Just grab some ZZZZ's on a bench while the family's shopping! :)

    Undercover Tourist tickets

I've just bought my Uni/HHN tix. for our trip Oct 12th!! I too thought it's too good to be true. I'll be going solo as my 12yo son is a bit spooked and I don't want a trip of nightmares for the week following. Can't wait for Walking Dead, Penn & Teller and the general creepyness of it all...

Disney Cruise Line - Kids Club Accommodation?

I can give you some insight on our experience with my 7yo son on our first Disney cruise 5 years ago. He has severe developmental delays. Even now he's at about an 18 month level, both physical and mental. We were resigned with the fact that he would be with us the whole cruise, since the...

Tell me about US/IOA mid December

We were last at Universal December 10-12, 2010. We had 2-day hoppers and went Sat & Sunday. Harry Potter was packed by late morning & IOA was busy but not crazy. Universal was busy but not crazy, as most guests were over at Potter. We had stayed on-site so the lines were not a problem...

Am I still too big for Universal ?

Good luck on the diet. I've got a bit of a belly. In 2010 I was 275 about 54 chest. I fit (just barley) but the bars were tight. On Mummy I thought I busted my spleen with all of it's starts & stops. :) Every thrill ride, I needed a cast assist. I think the belly was the problem rather...

    Ollivander's question

Echoing what others have said. An animated outgoing child gets attention. It's hard with kids but try to manage her expectations, it's pretty cool even when your not the one picked. Potter clothing does go a long way. My son & I had Gryfinndor scarves. All day cast members commented. One...

New to Universal, need help starting

Our Family are (is?) big WDW fans, and we also love Universal. We hit Universal every (or every other) WDW trip. We were there early December 2010 and are planning another visit this October. Some thoughts... We always stay on-site at Universal. The hotels are very nice but a bit on the...

Best thing I ever saw another guest do

This happened while on a 10 person extended family trip at HS. It was the 1 year anniversary of 9-11 and the president had a message that they played when the first tower fell. I took the older kids on R&R & ToT. My DW & MIL had the smaller kids at the county fair having some snacks. This...
