    June 8, 2013 Mediterranean via the Magic & Spain Pre-Trip (w/pictures)

There were some bumps on the Cinque Terre trip. Nothing major, but if you normally get sea sick the bumps will probably affect you. Our family takes Bonine/Dramamine Less Drowsy Formula every day of the cruise, so it did not bother us. I did not notice anybody sick on the trip. It was a...

    June 8, 2013 Mediterranean via the Magic & Spain Pre-Trip (w/pictures)

Part V – Naples, Pompeii, Sea Day, back to Madrid & home Naples: Today we were very excited to visit Pompeii. From the ship you have a wonderful view of Mount Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri. Going with our strategy, we chose a half-day tour of Pompeii. This morning was the least organized...

    June 8, 2013 Mediterranean via the Magic & Spain Pre-Trip (w/pictures)

Part IV – La Spezia & Civitavecchia La Spezia: Our excursion today was the Cinque Terre boat tour. This was an incredible excursion, and I highly recommend it. Our boat picked us up right off of the ship. We really lucked out with the weather. The tour takes you out of La Spezia harbor...

Part III – Embarkation, Sea Day & Villefranche Embarkation Day: We spent the morning walking around the Barri Gotic and getting ready for the “vacation from our vacation” and to head to the ship for our 11:00 am boarding time. Then we experienced the only rain of our trip, a sudden...

    June 8, 2013 Mediterranean via the Magic & Spain Pre-Trip (w/pictures)

Part II – Segovia & Barcelona On day four we decided on another day trip, this time to Segovia. Segovia is also connected by a high-speed train that takes about 30 minutes, though the train station is around 15 minutes away from the center of town (connect via bus or taxi). Again we had our...

Part I – Madrid & Toledo This is our family’s (Me, DW, DS (11) & DS (9)) third cruise and second with Disney. We went to Alaska about the Disney Wonder in August 2011. We had a great experience during our Alaskan cruise. We were in a one-bedroom suite on our Alaskan cruise, which we enjoyed...

    Med cruise 2014

You could do a lot in Barcelona in 4-5 days. Besides the regular sites like Sagrada Familia, the Picasso museum, Camp Nou and the Gaudi sites you can do some great day trips to Montserrat (monastery) and Figueres (Dali museum). With the high speed train you could also do a night in Madrid...

    Dinner seating

We have done two DCL cruises, Alaska on the Wonder in 2011 and the Med on the Magid in June 2013. We are a family of 4, and we were seated at the same table for 4 on both cruises (Table 65). I don't know if this is common or a coincidence. We did not request any special seating (i.e. alone or...

Med Cruisers - Hair Braiding on the Wonder

I saw it in June as well, but I only noticed it being occupied on the sea days.

Things you wish you knew(or glad you did) for your first DCL cruise

I wish I had a rainy day back-up plan for Juneau. We went in August 2011 and we had two DCL excursions planned for Juneau. It was raining and both excursions were cancelled. Besides a rainy day walk and shopping, there were no excursion options for us.

    Mediterranean DCL Excursion Questions

I travelled with DW, DS (11) and DS (9). We toured Spain for a week before the cruise, so our plan was not to over do it on the excursions. We chose 1/2 day excursions for this purpose. 1) Saint Paul de Vence was beautiful and had nice shopping. Our guide was very interesting as well...

What time to meet independent tour in Villefranche?

Based upon my conversations with others on the June 8th trip, and the announcements made about tendering, I would not set a time to meet before 8:45 am.

    Mediterranean DCL Excursion Questions

On the June 8th Mediterranean cruise we took 4 Disney excursions: (1) Saint Paul de Vence (Villefranche) (2) Cinque Terre Scenic Boat Tour (La Spezia) (3) Bracciano and Wine Tasting (Civitavecchia) (4) Half-day Pompeii (Naples) All of the tours were well run with good guides, nice...

    Palo Brunch Waiting List?

We had no problem booking upon embarkation, and we had a choice of days and times. We were on the Magic this June. As others have stated, the Palo charge is made to your onboard account.

    What to wear in restaurants.

We were on the Magic last month and we noticed that the dress code was loosely enforced. There were a number of folks in casual clothes on formal night, and we saw our share of shorts in the dining rooms for dinner. This did not bother us, just an observation.

    Concierge level rooms? Why?

Our family has sailed twice on Disney. The first cruise was Alaska in a 1 bedroom suite on the Wonder. Our second cruise was the Mediterranean in a 4A on the Magic. After our second cruise we decided that unless we found a smoking deal, the concierge service on Disney was not worth the extra...
