    Fort Myers / FM Beach?

Hi Hilary, We've been to Fort Myers Beach loads of times and finally bought a Time-share there although we won't be able to use it this year because of Hurricane Damage.:( The beach area is a very narrow strip of land so you have the Gulf on one side looking over to Sanibel, and the Backwater...

    Tax & tipping @ meals

15 -20% is for a full service restaurant. If you go into a buffet place $1-$2 per person is plenty depending how well you are looked after. Maids expect $1-$2 per person per day depending on the standard of your hotel. $1-$2 per bag for porters anywhere, taxi drivers , hairdressers etc also...

    St Augustine

St. Augustine is a great place to visit. There are several places of interest for which you can buy a combined pass. The Fort is also interesting and there is a wonderful museum full of old toys and clothes etc. You could go round in a day but two would be better. There are lots of quaint shops...

    Virgin Check in at MCO

As far as I know anyone can use it but it's only free if you are a Virgin Holidays customer. I think we paid $5 each last year - well worth it! Carol

    November

Hi, We go in November every year and love it. The crowds are light and the weather is mostly warm enough for shorts. You may need trousers and a jacket on some evenings and bear in mind that you lose daylight early and the Parks may be operating on reduced hours but the short queues more than...

    Fishing Rod???

DH takes fishing stuff backwards and forwards all the time and also buys stuff out there. Like Hilary's DH mine tries to stick to rods that will break down into a suitcase but we have brought others back from time to time and have had no problems. We always fly Virgin so can only speak for them...

    Virgin Flydrive

Another vote here for Nat West insurance. We always book Fly-drives with Virgin, take the FV upgrade on the car, pay a few £ extra for the extra days we need the car over and above the week , always decline their insurance with no problems then just have to pay the airport taxes etc when we pick...

help needed with Gulf Coast Hotels

Hi, We have a timeshare on Fort Myers beach so have been watching the damage situation closely. Some of the hotels could be open again as early as Monday but the area will be a mess for at least a couple of months apparently. We still don't know if our place will be ok by the end of Oct...

    car hire question

Book before you go - cheaper by far!!!!!!!!!. If you go with one of the bigger Companies , some have offices on I-Drive where you can pick up and some will drop a car off at your Hotel. Saves a lot of hassle in not having to go back to the big offices near the Airports.

    Which Cases? How Many?

We always take 2 softsided suitcases with wheels and pack a big soft bag in each for shopping;) . If you buy the ones with wheels try to get them with the wheels inset as much as possible because if they stick out they get ripped off on the carousel. If you don't have soft bags you can buy...

Overwhelmed by old baby stuff - any ideas?

You could try Social Services. They would have a register of people who need or will be needing that type of assistance. The Salvation Army are also often grateful for offers of this type. Carol:wave:

Any info on Fort Myers Beach Damage

Hi Everyone, We've been watching the reports of Bonnie & Charley and praying for everyone's safety. I know now that my Sister and family in Panama City are ok which is great. We have a 2 week interval ownership at Windward Passage on N. Fort Myers Beach and was wondering if anyone knows the...

    Tickets - Best price etc..

The 10 day tickets were brought in for the UK market as most Brits go for at least 2 weeks unlike the Americans who only go for a few days generally. The tickets are great value because you can visit all the Disney Parks but don't have to stay all day to get value for money as most people have...

Nice hotel at Gatwick North terminal?!

We always use Holiday Extras to book on-line mainly because they have a price match guarantee. If you can't turn up what you need via the web-site just give them a ring. Sometimes when you need extra beds in a room they have to ring the hotel first to check they will be available. Booking...

Naples v Marco for 2nd week?

It's horses for courses on this one. They're both lovely so all you really have to decide is will you want to spend all your time on the beach in which case Marco will be best or would you prefer to be just a little nearer to the shops and a bigger choice of places to eat. DECISIONS...

Diamonds are a girls best friend

DH has kindly purchased several pieces of jewellery for me in the States over the years. Bear in mind that they only use 14K gold and if you're spending a lot of money stick to somewhere like Tiffany's which is a trusted name. I've been happy with what I have but don't think it's as good value...

    Where's the Nearest Shop

Goodings at the Crossroads is a very touristy one and not cheap. It's also a tidy walk from Downtown Disney. If you are staying at Allstars you are not far from 192 West and there are several Supermarkets there. Wouldn't think a cab to those would be very expensive. Prices would be cheaper...

    Taking pills abroad?

No problem with non-prescription drugs but prescription ones should be in your hand luggage. If you need paracetamol while you are over there it is called acetaminophen (think that's how you spell it) over there and is readily available. We have found US Pharmacists to be just as helpful as...

    packing food in your suitcase!!

Don't risk not declaring them. If you are caught out trying to hide something it will be time consuming and embarrasing, not the best way to start a holiday. So long as you have no fresh fruit and veg dairy etc.& no products containing meat you should be ok. Baked goods are fine but not sure...
