I don't recall ever hearing about this, either. And, Disney World's infrastructure is more complex than it might seem; so its unlikely that damaging a power source would cause a total blackout. In short: this would appear to be a tall tale.

I haven't heard about this rumor. But, I would not be at all surprised to see them create a themed meet and greet area that may include a small-scale castle or perhaps a 2-D backdrop so that it looks nice for pictures.

IMHO, I would go with the second option. Head over to the water parks after lunch. I know some people love the morning at the water parks for the donuts and to then leave the afternoon free - but that's exactly why I like doing it the other way. That's just me, though.
