We got the day pass (pre cruise) and upgraded to the couples VIP in mid July. There was no auto gratuity on either of these services (they did have optional available). Auto gratuity was in effect for other services because I paid it with my massages.

In 2011 VAT was not added on top of excursion fees (DCL explained that it was already calculated into the cost and therefore built into the price). VAT was charged on gift shop items, bar drinks,, smoothies, snacks and photos.

Just a heads up...45 days is the old reservation dates for the Tower of Pisa. It has been changed to "between a maximum of 20 days and a minimum of 12 days prior to the date of the visit, subject to availability" Hope this helps you so you aren't checking all the time for the dates to open up.
