    Motivating a teenager??

Thank you for sharing your experience, I will ask about the executive processing. I could see this being a problem, he could do 200 piece puzzles at 3, astounds his geometry teacher with solutions & I still have to remind him to brush his teeth every morning. He has always been the absent...

    Motivating a teenager??

Thank you, he does fit pretty much every description of this. I'm not sure whether to ask his Dr. or the school, guess I'll check with both. Please let me know how it works out with your son, it's heartbreaking to see them not reach their potential.

    Motivating a teenager??

I should've added, I asked when this all first started if the school if they could make him write down assignments or have teachers initial or provide daily reports and they just don't think this is either helpful in the larger goal of getting him to do the work, or logistically possible for the...

    Motivating a teenager??

I can totally appreciate what you are saying, I know I was motivated by wanting to have a more secure life - without having to move a lot or worry about not having food. And I like to think that some of his lack of motivation comes from having a very easy life, he's never really had anything...

    Motivating a teenager??

Pretty much do all this already, he spends an hour studying at our office desk every school day and we have a no TV policy M-Th in our house anyway. The assignment book is tough, he always just says there was nothing to write down that day if it's blank. I do get Friday progress reports, and...

    Motivating a teenager??

Please - I need to take him in for his annual physical soon, and although I hate the idea of meds, it's something I might have to revisit.

    Motivating a teenager??

I wish there was a phone or other thing that motivates him, but he has one and I constantly have to remind him to carry it, so he can call me for rides, etc. Nothing seems to phase him. He is content in pretty much whatever state his life is in, which in some ways is admirable, but makes...

Just graduated from nursing school...trying to plan trip!

Congrats! I just finished three semesters of nursing prereqs and am starting the first of 4 semesters of the nursing curriculum in Sept., so I can relate, it's an accomplishment to celebrate. IF you have the money for a party set aside already, regardless of if you get a job, and can afford...

    Motivating a teenager??

We are at our wit's end... Our fifteen year old is very smart, but doesn't do well in school because he doesn't write down assignments and turn in his homework. As a result, he's gotten a couple of C's each quarter of his freshman year. In middle school it wasn't straight A's, but not C's...

    These Ok? Need One More...

Bummer - I forgot about that. It was very good for dinner, from the salmon to the salads to the desserts.

    Akershus or Garden Grill?

We really enjoyed Ashkershus for breakfast. My daughters loved the princesses, Snow White kept trying to convince my older daughter that she should meet Doc, since they are both quiet and wear glasses. She kept giggling which is great to see in my very serious older daughter. She had her...

    These Ok? Need One More...

We had a very good dinner at Kona a couple of weeks ago, not sure if that's something you'd consider for lunch or dinner...salads were very good, very good noodle & shrimp bowl, my husband had a good ribeye, and the desserts were excellent. We also had a very good lunch at Tony's, I loved the...

    Rapunzel at CRT

We were there a couple of weeks ago - no rapunzel. My five year old did really want to see her, so we waited in line from 9:15 til 11:00 for the little Rapunzel thing next to the castle.:confused3

    September travelers beware..

In defense of the OP... I've never witnessed the love bug invasion - but have had lady bug, or flying blue gnat invasions that make you not want to be outside. I still have vivid memories of taking a class on a fieldtrip and all of a sudden being caught on a sidewalk in the middle of...

Who watches your kiddos in the summer

Something to seriuosly suggest to your parks & rec program.... our town runs 5 morning programs at local parks, it is $75 for 8 weeks, a full day program for $400 for the summer, and a preschool half day for $100 for 7 weeks. The counselor's are mostly hs students, they earn a small stipend...

DS not answering to name - 14 months old (Update post 68)

It's never a bad idea to check if you have a concern and so great that you were able to get this whole process started so quickly! As a parent and former teacher, I'm a big believer in early intervention and being your child's best advocate. You never expect these challenges when they put that...

OT: Help! DS12 want to start guitar lessons

I think your budget is reasonable and I'd recommend www.musiciansfriend.com for purchases. We have bought things for my son's sax and base guitar through them with good results. Ibanez is a brand that was recommended to us. I'd also suggest looking for a music camp near your home for...

DD's friend not allowed to visit our house when dh is home?

We have quirks like this in our neighborhood too - one of my son's very good friends is Egyptian, and he is not allowed to stay overnight at anyone's home - but can have sleepovers at his home. I am not sure if it is cultural, or just a familial preference - but I've always just decided to...

    CRT vs Akershus

We preferred Asherkus to CRT - my daughter loved Belle and we really liked the breakfast. I love bagels w/lox, the berries were gorgeous and the hot items were all good. The princesses were all very engaging and my daughter's enjoyed the princess parade. Our experience at CRT isn't one I'd...
