Cruising with Service Dog and Special Needs Child

We had been in email and phone contact with Disney Special Services about our paperwork numerous times. I had even received both phone and email confirmation that Disney had all of our paperwork. I brought copies of everything for myself, but didn’t bring 2 copies. When we checked in, we were...

Cruising with Service Dog and Special Needs Child

We drove down 2 days prior and stayed at the Hampton Inn. We usually stay at Marriott properties. I was glad that Hilton actually has a place to check that you will be bringing a service dog on the reservation request. I usually include it in the comments on Marriott. We didn't get any grief...

Cruising with Service Dog and Special Needs Child

Some General Comments: Expect some funny moments with the dog and the characters. Blink was not at all sure about Mickey and Minnie, but after a couple of days had them down pat. She barked at Goofy every time – mostly because the two time she saw him he came up from behind and it startled...

Cruising with Service Dog and Special Needs Child

Hey everyone. We recently sailed our third Disney Cruise on the Dream, August 17, 4 night to Bahamas. We are a military family and were able to take advantage of the great military rates offered. We had booked 2 connecting verandah rooms on Deck 9. I wanted to post about our experience...

The EDGE on Magic for Developmentally Delayed Teen

I see this idea that the ADA doesn't apply thrown around here a lot. This is not true. In 2005 in Specter vs NCL the US Supreme Court ruled that the ADA does apply to foreign flagged shops that sail in US waters. So all cruise lines are required to comply with ADA if they depart from US ports...

    Character Call

Interesting about goofy. Maybe it's just Mickey and Minnie who don't mention the ship/cruise/destination???

    Bottled Water

Thanks for the info. I think I will just wait and get it onboard. We actually have to get it for our service dog. We have to use bottled water for her when we travel as some digs get an upset stomach drinking water from new places. I hate to risk trying her with the water in board and then have...

Renewing Passports That were Issued As Kids But Now Not?

One more thing. It does need to be done in person because it is a new passport for an adult. Doing it before it expires means you can use the unexpired kids passports as proof of citizenship and unlike a child passport, both parents do not need to be present to get the passport.

Renewing Passports That were Issued As Kids But Now Not?

As they are both over 16 and now eligible for adult passports, I would renew now. It is much easier to do adult passports anyway and they last 10 years. Waiting until they expire to renew isn't such a good idea.

    Bottled Water

Is it any cheaper to order bottled water ahead of time versus wait until we are onboard? If we order ahead, it will be in the room. If we wait until we get onboard, can we call and order it and have them bring it to our room or do we get it from a server and haul it to our room ourselved...

    Character Call

I am posting this because I think I have seen others ask about this. We wanted to surprise our kids for their cruise (we leave on Thursday to drive to PC for the Dream sailing August 17). We thought the character call would be a fun way to let them know about the cruise. When you set up the...

How late did you receive luggage tags/docs???

We were really hoping to have luggage tags before we got to port. I have three kids with my youngest in a wheelchair, and a service dog so having to get tags, tag our bags, etc just adds to the difficulty in moving from point a to point b!! I will call DCL tomorrow. Thanks

How late did you receive luggage tags/docs???

So it has now been 2 weeks since we booked our cruise on the Dream sailing August 17. We still haven't received our luggage tags, etc. Just wondering how late they might send them out? My kids have no idea we are taking a cruise - they think we are just going to Virginia Beach for the week...

Has anyone cruise on a military rate?

Spouses also have an I'D card and are eligible to book rooms at military rate. So if both military member and spouse are travelling together they can each book a room. Unmarried or widowed service members or spouses or those travelling without their spouse would only have one ID card and be able...

Has anyone cruise on a military rate?

Both the military person and spouse can book a room so if you are both ID card holders then you can book 2 rooms. We were surprised that connecting rooms were still available. The Dream and Fantasy have lots of connecting rooms. Might be harder on the older ships. But when I booked our 2 weeks...

    When do you buy insurance?

If you are military, very few insurances will cover if you have to cancel your cruise because your commander cancels your leave or you cannot return from a deployment in time to make it. We have always purchased insurance through USAA because it is the only one we ever found that would cover...

Has anyone cruise on a military rate?

It was offered for a two week period the weeks of 14 July and 21 July. If you go back and look at the thread with the GTY/Florida/Military rates you can see where it was posted. He lists the total for 2 people and taxes. We paid 700 per person for the first 2 people and a little over 100 for...
