Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Birthdays on the boat are fun! My oldest son was lucky enough to have it twice. They make a big deal over him at meals, and in the clubs. He'll get to wear a pin... my oldest still thinks those were his best birthdays ever.

Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Count us in! Myself, DH, two boys -- 9 and 13 at the time. And potentially a bunch of in-laws and random relatives. We'll see who books tomorrow.

    Coupon Organization

That's how I do it too! You'll get some weird looks, but you'll also get lots of people who are genuinely interested in your binder. I'm making one for my coupon-loving, super organized sister for Christmas. She uses the file system.

my first grader's pants were pulled down today--Update page 6

I think Torinsmom has a good, balanced approach to the situation. I'm so very sorry that your daugher is going through this. We had a bully situation in 2nd grade (and a bit in third) and it is no fun. It's even harder when they don't want to tell an adult at school about it. I wish I could...

    Budget percentages guidelines needed

I agree, the question of whether a college is an appropriate place to learn basic life skills is another debate. I often see posters kevetching about what students should learn about money in college. If it makes anyone feel better, I teach a course to new freshman called Academic...

Feeling odd about recent decision *Update Page 7*

I'm guessing she meant to say they don't eat meat every day, especially when she mentions using beans etc. to stretch. That's an easy, popular way to reduce your food expenditures.

Feeling odd about recent decision *Update Page 7*

Wow. Your compassion underwhelms me. Sounds like Dax has been anything BUT irresponsible -- budget cutting, job searching... How dare she take one day, full of freebies no less, and take a mental break from the daily grind and stress of her situation! Dax, I wish you luck. I'm in Florida...

    Pick Your Own farms- cost?

Sorry Angela, I missed the notification that there were replies on this thread! Yes, Bailey's closed. I went to Riverwalk the last couple years until they reopened the Palafox Market (at MLK plaza in the Palafox median/park just south of Wright Street). During the winter when the Palafox...

off site to help with budget??

We have been Florida residents for 11 years, and until just about three years ago we always stayed onsite. It was especially cheap when I was a Disney Store castmember (back in the good old days when Disney owned them and the benefits were good). Although we stayed for plenty of years when I...

    Pick Your Own farms- cost?

Worm761, We're in Pensacola too. We're picking blueberries this week for 75 cents a pound. There's a lot of blueberry farms around. We picked strawberries at BJ's in Elberta for around 1.25 or so a pound. Too late for this year, but something to remember for next. Here's the link to...

HS English Teachers out there?? POETRY Q

Not that weird. The modern correlation to the underworld Hades and Persephone oversee is often Hell isn't it? When I was a kid I was told that everyone who dies goes to Hell even if only for a short time. I was taught in college that this was part of a series of poems that she wrote to...

    What history changing event.....

The fall of Saigon? I was 8, and remember my mother crying. I watched all the Bicentennial celebrations on television in 1976, and Nadia Comanecei got all those perfect 10s and Bruce Jenner won the decathalon. Heck, I even remember Olga Korbut on the balance beam in 1972. Elvis died on my...

    OMG, the Queen was touched!

Good Lord. The Queen put her arm around her first. What's the protocol when the Queen embraces you? Stand there like a stick? In response to all the brouhaha, the Palace has stated that MO did NOT breach protocol during the meeting. Since I'm not a expert on royal protocol, and did not...

    First Lady's garden

Oh, I know the history of the term. I just like the way it is being used in a contemporary manner. We transplanted some big blueberry bushes, and they produced our first year. We got a handful of blackberries the first year, but a bunch in the second. Sadly, our rhubarb failed but we knew...

    First Lady's garden

Here's a layout of the garden from the NYT, and it has an inset so you can where it will be on the grounds. http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2009/03/20/us/20garden_grphic.html

    First Lady's garden

Some people still use "Victory Garden" to describe their attempts to break free of their dependence on agribusiness, the "foreign oil" bugaboo, processed foods. I've seen t-shirts, signs, websites of so-named movements. I don't care what people call it as long as we're all working for the...

Judge orders homeschoolers into public school.

Thanks for the link. I just finished it. I don't see how the judge could have ordered otherwise. It was sad to see how she has changed, and how she treats her kids, and how they are reacting. Almost complete alienation of her famiky too. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if that woman bolts...

    OT: University vs Community College

Are you talking about Mesa Community College and Arizona State? I used to advise at ASU, and many transfer students came from MCC. MCC may a good choice if he is hesitant about university. The faculty is very good (many PhDs are going to community colleges to teach). The general studies...
