How many colleges should you apply to?

Creative writing or English with a creative writing concentration. We have seen every (almost every) school in the state. Eastern has her major, but it's in the outback and beyond--she wouldn't be happy there. So Private school or out of state. And yes-we looked into the regional list--she...

How many colleges should you apply to?

We are in CT -dd wants a smaller school, so UCONN is out. The state schools don't have her major. So it's private out of state school for her. None of which based on their sticker price are financial safety's. We've looked at about 10 schools. 2 she loves, 1is a reach the other a...

    Northeast "Selective" Colleges

For the poster that asked about Trinity--it is in a terrible area, the city of Hartford is in not so good shape and the campus is open--you can have anyone walking through at any given time. There have been several incidents over the years. I wouldn't send my daughter there if it was free.

Hosting a short term exchange student

OP here-- Thanks! She is coming with a group and there are few outings planned-NYC, Boston and 6flags. We were told to treat her as one of the family and that just like my kids (dd 18 and DS 12) she is supposed to do chores. We aren't supposed to be a taxi service either. Thanks for the...

for those who have been in August

As the saying goes, it's not the heat it's the humidity. I hate being sweaty. I like to change after the mid afternoon swim into clean clothes. I wouldn't bring capris-maybe one or two for nighttime restaurants, little dressier places, but otherwise it's shorts for me. Have fun!

OMG enough with the abbreviations LOL

Uh, actually dis is short for the old Disney Information Station. DD, DH, etc. started back on the old BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems). That's how I remember it. IMHO, YMMV, LOL .

    Colleges and their GPA range

Core GPA is the grade point average of just the core classes-English, history/social studies, Math, Science and foreign language. This can be weighted as well. Thanks everyone--I hope schools will look at her more favorably since she has great grades and achievements in the area she wants...

    Colleges and their GPA range

Thank you- She is looking at schools/researching herself. And yes it kills me. :rotfl2: she is not a good test taker, yet has decent (over 600) CR and W SAT scores. Her Math SAT is not so good, and her midterm and final test grades are terrible. Her school publishes total weighted and...

    Colleges and their GPA range

Hi-- Probably a stupid question, but here goes-- When a college publishes their GPA of admitted freshmen, what GPA do they use? Total, unweighted, core, weighted, what? My DD is looking at schools, and has a solid B core gpa. Her total is much better. She has almost all honors & AP...

    Help with hair??

3 hours?! No. Way. I would go nuts. My hair is medium length-past my shoulders-fine, but I have lots, and pretty straight. I have foils, roots, cut & blow dry-1 1/2 hours. When mine gets dried out/over processed I glob on the conditioner. I'll put a bunch on my dry hair before I wet it...

Those with HS kids that do not have a p/t job..

When DD17went to Europe with school we needed to set up a debit account so she could have money while on the trip. When she got back and was going into junior year I kept the accounts-online debit account and a credit card. We sat down and budgeted money for the year and divided it by week. I...

    Real cost College tuition

I hear ya-I'm one of those people without a degree. I worked in marketing/retail management for many years and took a layoff deal when the company merged with a competitor. I had my kids & worked part time here and there. I wish I had a degree, it would open many more doors for me now. So, I...

    Real cost College tuition

Powellrj--she has had 3 guidance counselors. Her current one isn't much help. The school is holding a college information session next week-just a tad too late, don't you think? This is the first one of these that they've had since she's been in school.

    Real cost College tuition

Discount rate? I'm also thinking we can only afford to give her 10-12k per year for school. Our state schools don't offer the major she wants. So she would be going to a private school in state or an out of state school.

    Real cost College tuition

She is going to take the SAT for the first time this May. She doesn't know where she want to go yet. She has a few in mind-but they are very expensive. We haven't visited any schools yet. Ugh. I wish someone would do this for me!
