Official Miami Port Information Thread-5/1 update

It sounds like we're on the same cruise. We're flying out of FLL at 1230pm. Disney recommends departing flights for noon or later, and probably add 30 mins for FLL.

    Camera Bag

I tested both LR2 and AP2 and preferred the latter. Now I am using AP3 and find it to be a great upgrade over AP2. Here is a short article which compares AP3 and LR3: http://aperture.maccreate.com/2010/06/19/aperture-3-vs-lightroom-3-an-aperture-users-initial-impression/

    camera that is MAC compatible?

As the other posters said any camera is going to work with your mac. And the mac comes with a very good photography program– iphoto. You are much better off using that then any of the software that might come with the camera. iPhoto is quite good for all but serious amateurs and pros. There are...

    Photo sharing: Sony Alpha

Thanks for the info on the A550, folks. Banned is too strong a word– but I want to wait for a video option (I know SLRs are not ideal for this, but I'd like to be able to take short videos of my kids– like at a school concert). I care much more about stills, so my plan is to wait for an A5xx or...

Thanks. About your A550, are you enjoying the camera? I have an A300 and am banned from any new body purchase until 2011 (my wife did allow me the tamon 17-50 and sony 18-250 earlier this year, however :) ). But I'm thinking about renting an A550 particularly for nighttime and low light...

    metering, etc. for nighttime events

I would appreciate some feedback on the right equipment and settings for nighttime events at Disney World. The body I'll be using is either a Sony A300 or A550. Both include in-body image stabilization, but the A550 has much better low light sensitivity (I may rent one for that reason). I will...

    photo sharing: Spectromagic!

I feel the same way. We were supposed to travel to disney in Feb. but had to cancel due to the big snow on the east coast. So instead we're going this July, but no spectromagic, which is too bad. Here are some shots I took in Feb. 2009...

    Underwater/waterproof cameras, cases and housings

In case you're just looking for something for a vacation, then maybe it's worth considering a rental. These folks offer two different underwater cameras for rental: http://www.lensrentals.com/category/bodies-and-accessories/for-all

    Sony A100

Yes, KEH.com is a good place to check if you're looking for used lenses. Here's a link to their Sony brand lenses: http://www.keh.com/Search-Products/1/DS/7/EmptyKey/Grade/0/0/SE.aspx I didn't see an 18-250 at the moment. You can also check under Minolta Maxxum for minolta brand zooms and...

    tripod help?

I recommend a Manfrotto: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/602430-REG/Manfrotto_7302YB_7302YB_4_Section_Aluminum_Tripod.html I have the predecessor to this one (the 725b) and it's quite good. I've brought it into the park in the parks for fireworks.

    Camera strap

I just bought a black rapid strap for my dslr–*the early results seem really good. For my P&S I use a leather wrist strap by "gordy straps."

    MEMORY Card OVERVIEW?

I've always used sandisk on my dslr and have been happy with it (though make sure to buy from a reputable seller–*there are counterfeit cards out there). I've also used transcend on other devices (wii, p&s camera) and have yet to have a problem.

Here are some photos from our recent visit to Washington during the Cherry Blossom Festival. These were all taken with my A300 and cz 16-80 or sal 18-250. http://www.flickr.com/photos/25360889@N07/sets/72157623877085558/ John

    Sony A100

Yes, I paid $579 when I bought mine in January. If you do bing cashback you can save a few bucks– like 2-3%. The most important thing is to go with someone reputable– e.g. BH Photo, Adorama, Amazon, etc. Resellerratings (or these boards) are a good resource when in doubt.

    Sony A100

I own the Sony 18-250 and find it to be quite good. Usually with superzooms one expects a compromise in image quality. But the 18-250, either Sony or Tamron, is a good lens. I ended up going with the Sony because it's claimed to focus a bit faster. By the way, dyxum is a good site if you want...

    Photos on Soarin'

I hope you're joking. What would be the point of using a flash on soaring, we're you're just going to wash out the projected image? I've had folks on Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion ruin the effects (and my low light vision) by repeatedly using flash on these rides. Flash has...

    Photo printer

I have an Epson R1900 and am very happy with it. The pigment inks are very durable. It also has good glossy output due to their special gloss optimizer ink.

J&R - not starting off well...

Just my 2¢ – I've never had a problem with J&R. B&H, Amazon, Adorama are others I tend to use and also recommend. Sadly, fraud is something that costs us all, so the vendors do have to take steps to minimize it.
