    Travel Changes?

Just read this thread with much interest. We had an April SoCal Escape that was just cancelled - we held out as we preferred a full refund if at all possible. Mainly as the trip worked for those dates this year, but it was not a must do. We have a NatHab trip booked this summer - they emailed...

Rhine Cruise - Question about Strasbourg

We did the toboggan run one....it was a hard choice! I am not recalling if Riquewihr included riding when we went - perhaps you could ask if you could skip it? Depends on where it is as to wha you could do instead. I have skipped activities on regular ABDs and other trips and sometimes just had...

Rhine Cruise - Question about Strasbourg

I had planned on staying in town until it poured rain....had planned on a cab back to the boat. Several people did that, staying in town for lunch after the excursion (both of which are ‘in town’) I think it was a 20-30 minute bus ride when we went in 2018 The wine tasting is in town - not sure...

    Laundry during the Japan ABD?

We did the trip last summer and clean clothes was probably my biggest concern. Like abdgeek, we pack a lot of synthetic materials that can be washed easily in the sink and that dry quickly. A lot of 'athleisure' works (Athleta, Old Navy) or 'travel' gear (Eddie Bauer, Columbia). We also travel...

    Africa- Tauck vs. ABD?

We briefly compared. We opted for ABD as it had less safari time as we weren’t sure if we would like it. We did and next summer we are headed back to Sfrica with a more ‘animal focused’ company.

    This year's gift

Wasnt expecting any seeing we moved - we got two sets of two (different mailings) and when I just went to use them for 2 tickets Frozen II, it applied $18 as a credit on the total cost - so 3 left!

Good gift items for world travelers

Another idea for travel sized stuff is the target and walmart beauty boxes, or for a fun gift, a subscription to Birchbox

Good gift items for world travelers

For the 9-12 group, card games are great - Sushi Go, Uno, pretty much anything by gamewright. A word search or sudoku and markers can be good for long flights, waiting in restaurants etc. If you have a reader (I don't....) books set in the location are fun - I bought them and usually read them...

2020 Food and Wine Rhine River Cruise Pre-night

When we did it, friends who did the ABD pre-night stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Basel. We booked our own and stayed at https://www.teufelhof.com/ which we really liked. Basel is a cute town - we basically wandered around for the morning - Laderach chocolate and Baseler leckerli...

Tauck Bridges Alaska versus ABD versus Austin Adventures?

We did the Tauck Bridges trip - for us it felt like a lot of travel time to get to Denali vs time spent there; and DD preferred some of the TB activities. Having only one guide provides a different experience - they focus much more on the logistics. And we were on the first trip of the season so...

    Food for Kids

The China ABD was our first and DD was 5. We found the flights kind of a blessing - easier to have down time/nap with a young kid on a plane than on a bus. She is an early riser too, so missed a couple of things - I think the after dinner activity on the first night and she slept through the...

Pre-ABD options for Greece June 2020

I would think about it in part from a flight perspective - where makes a good stopover or transit point? Depends on where you are flying from, what airline has good prices..... And then can you get from the 'stopover' to Athens fairly easily/cheaply? For example we did London/Paris and...

Trip Report - Japan 5/2019 UPDATED 10/26!! ABD Day 10 - Tokyo in Color

Bringing back some great memories! Funny thing about the bento boxes - at Ikspiari we were in the dollar type store and we saw the same lunch boxes we had been given - 300 yen each. So not fancy, but authentic in a different way I guess!

First Night in TDR Dinner and a Jet Lag Question

For us, night 1 tends to be a solid sleep due to exhaustion, and night 2 can be rough - in Asia that tends to mean waking very early. I like your plan - taking the monorail to Ikspiari will give you a bit of a 'fix.' If you want Disney, you can check out the Disney store at Ikspiari, Bon Voyage...

ABD Japan July 14-26 (with Tokyo Disneyland Extension): Trip Report and Impressions

That was so much fun to read! One of the odd things about the food tour in Takayama was stopping outside a store with a sign with an icecream cone on it, being asked 'what do you think this place is?' and being told tofu and then being handed lukewarm tofu out of a plastic box.....high to a low...

    Japan Pre-nights? Kyoto or Tokyo

My inclination would be Kyoto - or Osaka is a great idea! We almost did Osaka this year to see Universal Studios - thank goodness we didn't cause the G20 was there that weekend. Having been to Kyoto and Tokyo twice now, I find Kyoto an 'easier' city to find things to see and generally get...

kids only events on ABD trips?

We have not done an Italy trip, but in our experience the Junior Adventurer nights vary quite a bit and don't always involve a movie. Japan they are doing bowling and a dinner of fries, pizza, chicken tenders etc. Our trip only had one under 12 and a lot 13-22 - almost all of them opted to...
