    China

It's definitely worth coming in a day early, both for the jet lag and (more important IMO) having a buffer in case flights get delayed. We did China with ABD three years ago and LOVED it. We've done three ABD trips so far (#4 is 61 days away :)) and the wole family agrees it was easily the...

    Thanks! That's good to hear.

France: Esprit de France Meets Thread

The Imperial War Museum is in the midst of a massive remodel, and is closed until the day before we get to London. They'll be open in a very limited fashion while we're there, and I'm trying to figure out what's open. I am a WWII history buff, and I'm colossally bummed that my target museum in...

France: Esprit de France Meets Thread

We just signed on for the 8/3-8/10 trip, after circumstances prevented us from doing the Greece trip in early July we'd originally booked. In addition to my wife, we'll be bringing our two boys, aged 13 and 16. This will be our fourth ABD trip -- we did Italy in 2008, China in 2010, and...

Kids headed to Ecuador and Galapagos

They're in for a wonderful time. We were on the previous departure, and just got back last Thursday. One of our guide (Laura) is doing this departure as well, and she's great. The cruise through the islands is pure magic.

    12 Night China May 15, 2011

We went on the ABD tour to Chna last June, and yes, it was quite hot. However, I wouldn't say that it was unbearable. The guides kept us supplied with lots of water, and that kept us hydrated. Also, most of the time, we weren't spending hours and hours out in the heat - you'd have a...

    Galapagos planning

We are going in June, and my travel doctor said we only need Hep A and tetanus vaccines for the places we will visit with Disney. Disney is not taking us to the rain forest or low-lying areas where the mosquitos are.

Bella Italia September 2011- Upgrade? Really?

We stayed at the Hilton Sorrento on an ABD trip in 2008 and *loved* it. The rooms were nice (if a tad colorful), and the views were utterly breathtaking. The morning breakfast buffet was over the top -- my kids still talk about three years later. The view from the shared deck outside our...

    Lots of Questions about CHINA

I can't imagine going all the way to China and not seeing the Terra Cotta soldiers. Yes, it was a long day, but so what? Absolutely worth it. Guilin and the Gumdrop Mountains is easier to imagine missing, but for me it was one of the highlights of the trip, so I'd personally rather stick...

    Lots of Questions about CHINA

We were on the June 13th Enchanted China trip, and would be happy to answer questions.

    China 2010

You mean it got hotter? The second half of June was like Florida in July in many spots.

    China 2010

Another note - the Great Firewall in China proper (not Hong Kong) blocks access to Facebook along with other sites. If that bugs you as it did me, I found two ways around it: phone and VPN. I was able to use my phone to go to http://m.facebook.com and post status updates and such. This...

    China 2010

Perhaps for the flights to and from China. Beyond that, we never used a jacket. We did use our raincoats here in HK, though we used umbrellas more. Yes. Our boys were able to swim at least once at each hotel. Several of the adventurers were working out almost daily.

Flat Stanley's adventure to China has begun

I'm having a blast looking at all your photos. Having just finished the same tour (I'm sitting in my room at HKDL right now) I recognize every single location, and it's bringing it all back.

    China 2010

On our trip, I know that a six year old and an eight year old weren't allowed to handle the pandas. A nine, ten, and thirteen year old were allowed to do so. I don't know if it was an age limit thing or a size thing; I would suspect the former.

    China 2010

Greetings from the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel! The official tour finished up last night :( but we have a couple of extra days here on our own. We went into Hong Kong on the metro all by ourselves today -- it was strange to be driving the activities ourselves. I miss my fellow adventurers and...

    China 2010

Well, it's our turn now. We're finishing up packing, and we're off tomorrow night to stay near SFO. After that, an early flight to Vancouver, a long flight to Beijing, and the our adventure begins. We can't wait!

If you find a hotel where you need the converters, PLEASE post that info. We're on the trip right after yours, and if we don't need converters, I won't buy 'em.

    China 2010

If you're staying there for a couple of nights, I'm sure all of the hotels you (and we :)) will be staying at will offer laundry services. You'll pay through the nose, though.

    Enchanted China May 30, 2010

Yes, we had to leave them there. You drop them off, and you come back four (or more) days later. The wait time was near an hour both times. You can also pay companies to do this for you, but I didn't feel like paying a bunch more on top of the $130/person visa price.
