    Wedding Ideas??

We had the Mickey/Minnie cake topper. But even more fun were Mickey and Minnie Pez dispensers for favors.

    Got a Good Book Recommendation?

Some recent ones I've liked: The Girls by Lori Lansens- story of conjoined twins. This was the best book I've read in a long time. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand- true story of a WWII POW Emily Alone by Stewart O'Nan- about a widow dealing with aging. I love all of his books. Alice I have Been...

    Eat at home 2!

Only two months till our WDW trip, I am really trying to save money. I read this thread often but have never posted before. Tues: filet mignon (for dh and I, he bought them as a surprise treat, the kids wanted chicken nuggets), smiley fries, steamed broccoli, cucumber slices Wed: lasagna and...

    Anyone familiar with Minecraft?

Both of my kids love playing it. It was less expensive when we bought it but I can say I think we've gotten our money's worth. I like that it's a one time fee.

    What's fair?

First of all, lots of hugs. I'm a hospice social worker and deal with situations like these all of the time and know first hand from my own parents how hard it can be. Is it fair that you pay your $200? Sure it is. Is it feasable for you right now? No, it's not. It's also not fair for your...

    Akershus for boys??

I took my 9 year old there and he did fine. The trip before I just went with my dd but this time I really wanted to have a family meal. The princesses were very sweet with him and paid him just enough attention (not too much to annoy him, lol).

    Swim Team costs

I haven't read all of the posts so this might be redundant. Our area has a YMCA league but there are other leagues out there. You could try a google search and see what you come up with. My kids' summer league was $175 for 2 kids (including $20 donation towards the concession stand and a $20...

    O/T: Cedar Point & Cleveland

We've stayed at the Hyatt Place in Independence several times. We've had good experiences despite our car being broken into in the parking lot (not uncommon in most hotel parking lots). There are suites with sleep couches, indoor pool and free breakfast. The AAA rate was $89. It's about 15...

Little things that "bust" a budget...stolen backpack

I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope that it was a mistake and someone turns it in. Someone stole my dh's camera at Cub Scout camp, we felt the same way, it was supposed to be a bunch of trustworthy boyscouts! Our car was broken into last week, $200 just to fix the broken window and they stole...

Pulling 7 year old out of school. What do you do?

I've pulled my kids out of school and it's been fine. My 10 year old has done it three times and my 7 year old once. We asked for their work for the week and they kept a journal to share when they returned, and they kept up with their daily reading. Our district has considered them excused...

    hotels in charleston and Savannah

We stayed at The Hampton Inn in downtown Savannah. It was right across from the water, free breakfast and the rooms were nice. I don't know the rate b/c my mom was with me and she got an employee rate of $29 (she worked for Hilton).

    What's a good VeggieTales DVD?

Asked my 10 yo ds and he said the same thing. Lord of the Beans is based on The Lord of the Rings, it's actually pretty funny.

Thrift Stores, Goodwill and Salvation Army

I can understand the stigma people feel about shopping at thrift stores. I can remember when I was a kid feeling very embarrassed when my mom brought home stuff from the Salvation Army. But, I've taught my kids the opposite. We talk about consumerism and not filling land fills with things we...

Do you like your small SUV?

I love my Toyota Rav4. It has a large trunk area, it's comfy for my dh who is 6'3" and the gas mileage is good. I drive a ton for work and wanted a 4wd, the 4 cylinder model had the best gas mileage of all of the cars I compared. Good luck deciding!

Very tall 2 year old at Disney

My son is very tall also and we've never been questioned (in 5 trips). He was 40" when he turned 2, 44" when he turned 3, 48" when he turned 4....... and so on, lol. He's consistently grown about 4" a year. Last year he was nine and around 5'3". I was worried that we'd be questioned b/c we...

    Tent camping

Totally agree about a barrier between you and the air mattress, otherwise it gets quite cold. And it can be way colder at night than during the day, especially anywhere near mountains. It can be 90 degrees during the day and dip to the 50's at night. We always bring down blankets from home...
