    Sad, Pancreatic Tumor

Stopping in to say that we saw her yesterday and we've gotten a call with more information today. Looks like we'll be doing more caretaking than I'd expected, even though she's in a nice facility - shuttling her around to doctors' appointments and I don't know what else. I'm officially...

If a teacher were to post your child's work on Facebook with no identifying details..

I wouldn't mind at all, in fact it sounds like a fun reason to friend their teacher. Out of curiosity, are there many closed groups for individual classes on Facebook where parents and their child's teacher can interact? My DDs aren't in school yet, so I wouldn't know.

Have you ever been. . .

I wasn't quite told, but it seems like all the rectors we've had at our church just assume you'll do something and the onus is on you to say you won't. Mostly I've tried to do it if I can, the exception being that I've been 'asked' several times to help with phone campaigns and I'm awful at...

    Freezing meals for elderly parents

If you choose to use reusable baking dishes (get them from the thrift store and they'll probably come out cheaper after a few uses then aluminum, but you'll have to wash them), spray them with cooking oil before you assemble the dishes. I've found it works easiest if you have a chest freezer to...

boyfriends/girlfriends sleeping over each others house

Oh, go ahead and give him a complex! Maybe pull out a children's book explaining the birds and the bees and make him sit next to you while you bawl your eyes out reading it to him? ;)

    Hurricane Season: tips to prepare

I just remembered: before Sandy landed I packed up everything I could, starting with family photos and every item my children had a sentimental attachment to, in giant Ziplock bags that are sold for storing clothes. I put these in rubbermaid bins and double sealed them. You simply can't take...

boyfriends/girlfriends sleeping over each others house

I'd let him go. And I'd let my hypothetical 18 year old daughter go, too. If you want to make a point about safe sex, consider offering to treat them something for the prom (limo ride?) in exchange for them letting you take them to get tested at a clinic. Together. The good folks working...

    Hurricane Season: tips to prepare

Invest in a top notch NOAA radio -there are many available that you can charge by cranking, solar power, USB, or the car AND that can charge your phone or laptop for you if it's got enough charge in it- and make sure that it's properly set to the right stations for your area with alarms turned...

    Katrina & Sandy Why?

Best comment of the thread, IMO. Maybe hurricane season prep ought to be its own spin off thread. I know that we're stocking up. Most of our hurricane season supplies double as camping equipment.

    Katrina & Sandy Why?

You're right. The victims in Katrina were poorer, less informed, had more to lose by jumping ship if nothing happened, less ability to transport themselves (even with the public transport being offered, which was disorganized), their equivalent of our 'dunes' hadn't been kept in good repair...

How do you justify the cost?

LOL, I'll tell you how we're justifying our next trip to WDW, but I'm hoping not everyone is in the same boat: When DH and I got married we were just kids starting out. There were babies and expenses, so we had a cake and punch wedding that cost us less than $100 (church, nice white sundress...

    Katrina & Sandy Why?

:scared1: Wow this thread took a turn. As a NJ native I can assure anyone that cares to pay attention that we had PLENTY of people who refused to evacuate and lots of our DIY 'self-reliant' types got themselves a nice case of carbon monoxide poisoning (or flat out died). Our own politicians...

    Katrina & Sandy Why?

As someone who lives in NJ and spent a week without power (we were very lucky and we had the place full of people who had no power or water), I think it's simple fatigue, even right here next door to the disaster areas. My husband's family spent half of every year on the shore, now all their...

Tips for staying cool in the parks?

I'm curious: does anyone know if the Frog Toggs are the same as the gel filled neck coolers? Has anyone tried both before? I'd love to know how they compare.

Tips for staying cool in the parks?

Along the same lines, I saw some electrolyte replacing tablets you can add to your water bottle being sold at Sierra Trading Post. They were sold under the name of Nuuns and pretty affordable on that site. And I just saw that you can make or buy those cooling gel filled bandanas, but made to...

Tips for staying cool in the parks?

We like to use those bandanas filled with water absorbing crystals. You can make your own, or they're sold all over the place (one brand name is Chill-Its, they're sold as 'neck coolers'). You just soak them for a few minutes and put them around your neck or on your forehead, and they cool you...

    Sad, Pancreatic Tumor

I'm sorry for your loss. We are seeing her this weekend and will try to see her, as a family, once a week even if she is bedridden. If she asks, we will go more frequently. I suspect that complications, medicine interactions, or her other medical issues will be what does it in the end. My...

    Help... Husband has a son!

OMG! Definitely get your legal ducks in a row. If you aren't careful, you could be charged with kidnapping even if your DH is listed as the biodad and even if the boy came of his own accord without consulting you first. That said, how lucky is he that his Dad and his stepmom (is that the...

    Fish Oil supplement

There's fish oil in my daily vitamins. I just recommend keeping them in the fridge or else the taste, even in gel caps, is pretty bad. No fishy burps if they've been in the fridge, and the oil isn't apt to go rancid.

WWYD - long *Update in post#28

I'll add my 2¢ to the pile and say ignore this woman. Whatever she is, she's not these women's mother and it sounds like she's just trying to poison the well against her own daughter.
