    Logistics with rental car

There's no need for that. Avis car rental at Port Canaveral already has free port shuttle.

suggestions in Orlando or Central FL

If you rent a car you need a company that has drop off service in Port Canaveral. The Port Canaveral car rental companies that have it are Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Thrifty and Hertz. They all have free port shuttle too. National, a little further away, doesn't have shuttle.

I have always liked Oceanside Inn in Cocoa Beach. It called LaQuinta Cocoa Beach Oceanfront now. They just renovated the whole hotel and have all new rooms. They have great ocean views and are right by the Cocoa Beach pier.

Car Seats required for Port Canaveral taxi?

If you take a shuttle, car seats are not required. Shuttles fall in the same category as buses. Residence does have shuttles. If you use them, make sure you have the shuttle reserved well in advance.

Helpful Information For You Updated 03/30/2012

Wow. You really did a lot of work and a wonderful job. This is a great cheat sheet for anyone going on a cruise from Port Canaveral. I used to be one of those managers at the hotels near Port Canaveral. So thank you for those kind words. I spent a lot of time helping guests that were going on...

    Beach Day

Cocoa Beach doesn't have the biggest waves, but everybody surfs there anyway and there is no shortage of beach/surf shops where you can get skim boards.

    Bahamas, lunches and car rental

It's about 1 minute to the port from Dollar but you have to acount for waiting for the shuttle to arrive and leave. Plan 15 minutes each.

    Beach Day

You can rent chairs and umbrellas in Cocoa Beach at the main entrance at the end of SR 520 (Cocoa Beach Causeway but the sign says 520). Just a few blocks further down from there, there's another vendor at the Double Tree Hotel. Both vendors are on the beach, so you'll have to walk onto the...

    Getting to Port

If you rent a car to Port Canaveral, there are six companies with drop off service in Port Canaveral Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and Thrifty and they all have free shuttle to the port. Other transfers to port would be using a shuttle service like Cocoa Beach Shuttle which charges...

anyone leave a car at WDW while on the ship?

You're right. There's no sense for paying for parking at the port, which is $15 a day. There are only six rental car companies you can rent a car and drop of at Port Canaveral, which are Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and Thrifty. Make sure you use one of those rental companies or...

Where to stay the night before DC?

There are lots of places to stay in Cape Canaveral. Radisson Resort at the Port is always a good recommendation, but if you are going to be there a few nights I recommend the beach hotels nearby. For car rental drop off in Cape Canaveral, there are only six companies I recommend Avis, Budget...

RV Parking? We need a place to "park" while we cruise? Ideas?

Actually, someone quoted you wrong. If you park at the port it is $15 per day. There are park and cruise hotels near Port Canaveral which require a one night stay and you can leave your car while you take your cruise out of Port Canaveral.

Parking at resort while on cruise

Parking at terminal is $15 per day at Port Canaveral. There are hotels near Port Canaveral that you could consider for cruise parking at a resort. Maybe shorten your stay one night and stay at one of those hotels. They only require a one night stay to leave your car and save the parking fees.

Cheapest way to get from mco to port

They add $30 to go past Orlando airport and to the Disney area of Orlando. I think you'll find a few complaints about all the shuttle companies. I was in the hotel business near Port Canaveral and hired them for about 10,000 guests over 3 years. I'll vouch for them.

Cheapest way to get from mco to port

Everything is included in the price except tip for the shuttle driver. I think the price is actually $78 for MCO to Port Canaveral with Cocoa Beach Shuttle for 5 people. They will add $30 to take you to your WDW resort though, but it's not a problem. They do it all the time.

Does it make sense for dad to check-in for cruise while family is at a local hotel?

The taxi from Residence wouldn't be that much, but I still would just bring the kids. The terminal is kid-friendly and you shouldn't have to wait too long to board.

    Closed Loop Cruises

Odds are good, you'll still arrive back in Port Canaveral. I live there and don't think this storm will interfere with coming back to home port.

    What to do with luggage...

Actually, there are some shuttle services that will hold your luggage. A lot of people spend the day at Kennedy Space Center and then fly out that night. Cocoa Beach shuttle has been known to pick you up at the ship, drop you at Kennedy, hold your luggage and then pick you up at Kennedy and...

    Flight Question

I tell all my guests not to book return flights before 12:30. It is rare but possible you won't get off the ship until 10. It will probably be an hour before you arrive at the airport. Too risky.

Any one want to predict how this weather disturbance is going to play out??

Being from Cape Canaveral, I've seen them go west before but, believe it or not, it's still too soon to tell.
