I did have luck with one of the methods. I was able to get the transfer to move to a piece of paper by ironing the shirt on the back. Worked like a charm!

I'm no expert on transfers but I do know that vinegar does wonders for removing most of what's left from fabric softeners. Curious to see what others have to recommend.
