Dumb question about moving. The logistics of it all making my head hurt lol

Moving is a pain. I know--I've done it more times than I care to remember. Last time we moved cross country--and I very much agree with mickeymedic. We rented a dumpster and tossed SO much. But we also donated, gave away, and sold as much as we could. (The one good thing about moving--great...

    3 night weekend trip?

We love long (3 or 4 day) weekends at WDW! For some reason, we tend to take them really slow and lazy. Go. Take the kids. Enjoy!

New Orleans - Do We Need A Car?

We just visited NOLA for a weekend on our way back from WDW! We stayed at the Courtyard Iberville Suites--very nice and great location. In the past we've stayed at the Place des Armes right on Jackson Square and had a very interesting ghost encounter, if you're looking for a unique visit. Check...

    Wifi?

Yes. Had no issues with it in the parks at all last month--but some connection issues in our room at Kidani. We use AT&T, which is WDW's official provider network.

    Motion: 7DMT vs Star Tours

I rode 7DMT three times recently and found little to no sway (unless we tried to rock our car--even then, miminal motion) on it. It's fairly comparable to BTMRR, only smoother.

    common core implementation

Zimba actually provides interesting insight and discussion about this algebra argument here: http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/rick_hess_straight_up/2013/02/rhsu_straight_up_conversation_sap_honcho_jason_zimba.html Standards offer algebra rigor through grade 8. It's up to individual districts to...

    common core implementation

Not true at all, at least not in math. CC standards are actually quite rigorous and endorsed by mathematical leadership around the country (from all sorts of liberal and conservative backgrounds). http://www.nctm.org/uploadedFiles/New_and_Noteworthy/CBMS%20Support%20Statement%20for%20CCSSM.pdf

    High School Class of 2015

Such a good point. As a parent, I need to be careful of the idea "if it was good enough for me, it's good enough for my kids." Thirty years ago, I applied to one university that I had never even visited prior to going there for placement testing right before I started freshman year. My ACT...

    Door County

I spent a long, rainy week camping in Door County once. Baby got sick, cooler was destroyed by raccoons, stuck doing indoor things like going to a toy museum (who needs to look at collections of teddy bears--no matter how historic they are?!), ate lots of cheese...I can't recommend it.

If you've had a spouse in Grad School...

I don't understand what there is to discuss, especially since you say the timing is right. My husband has gotten 4 advanced degrees and I've earned one since we've been married. The most discussion we had was maybe "honey, I will have class Wednesday nights." :confused3

Trying to plan a "new experiences" Disney vacation

If you've never done AK, I woud definitely add it to your itinerary. The Lion King and Wonders of Flight shows, Expedition Everest and the Safari make it a must-do park for us every trip! I think Magic Kingdom has a Family Magic tour that would work for your family. La Nouba is a great...

DD having roommate issues at college Update post #28

What, exactly, are you suggesting to the mother of a college student?

What is the biggest risk you have taken in your life - & how did it work out for you?

Moving seems to be a popular answer. We recently moved halfway across the country (but thankfully, still the same distance to WDW and to an area with cheap flights to MCO!) due to a last-minute job change. We're in our mid-40's and it's our first time leaving our home state and family. We left...

    Travel Medical Insurance

Some insurers actually do cover the same abroad as they do in the US. My father's (retirement) insurance covered my mom just fine when she had to make an ER visit in Germany a few years ago. No OOP expense except for the $20 (and I don't even think it was converted to Euros) copay. Same coverage...

Kids heading back to school-who's sad??

I'm very sad. I'm about to take my daughter to college tomorrow. She will be 1100 miles away from home. Eighteen years passes by way too quickly. Hug your kids and enjoy them while you can.

Pros and cons? AKV versus Bay Lake versus BCV?

Depends on what kind of vacation experience you're going for. (Actually, it all depends on availability. We've been BLT owners since they first sold, but just finally got in this past month. We loved it, btw.) AKV is great for getting away from the crowds and bustle and business of the...

Please help me brainstorm an 'out West' trip.

We've done several trips out west from Illinois. Most recently we flew to SFO and spent time at Yosemite and Redwood National Parks and then in San Francisco. We've also spent 3 weeks or so camping in the west/southwest--Rocky Mountain NP, Bryce, Zion, Arches, Grand Canyon and Lake Powell...

    Grammar Police

I've had to relax my English language standards when it comes to message boards. Most of us are in a hurry to communicate our thoughts and do not take the time to edit before we post. Furthermore, auto correct often overrides something we've typed that is correct ("it's" for "its," for example)...

    Piano Bob worth the "hassle"?

I think he's worth it. Depending on what time you get in, you could still do the hang-out-by-the-pool thing and then mosey over to POR after 8 and catch a good portion of Bob's show. Do check his schedule (on his website) though--he doesn't perform every night.

Rose & Crown new menu - is it true???

For me there's no arguement--I love Indian food, and the best curry I ever had was in London, England. Looking forward to trying R&C's curry.
