Planning a January 2023 DC trip

Well that is a no brainer! Thanks for pointing this out because I did not realize it. Tickets purchased. The only odd bit is that we're within the window for the free premium drink package but it doesn't show up on the reservation but I can tackle that tomorrow.

Planning a January 2023 DC trip

Thanks so much, this is good advice and I appreciate it. The cabana advice is spot on and I had actually planned to request a cabana by the Grand Reef. The prior two times we went to DC we had the same cabana there, at the same location and it was perfect.

Planning a January 2023 DC trip

It's been a good 6 years since we've been to DC or any of the parks and my planning muscles are out of shape. We've got a wedding in Orlando in January and I thought it would be perfect to spend a couple of extra days so that we could go to DC (and possibly SW). DC tickets for our preferred...

    Convertible Cars

I hate riding with the windows down but love riding in convertibles. It must be the change in the direction of the wind :). I have a Jeep, which is the most fun I've had driving anything with 4 wheels, and with the top off it's just a whole other level of fun.

    let's talk ER waiting

Or pregnant. What earlier posters have said about triage is true and it makes sense but is frustrating when you're waiting. Especially if your given incorrect or incomplete information. Once my mom had fallen and was taken by ambulance to the ER. She was in her 90s and in a wheelchair so we...

    Ocean City MD Advice

We went to Ocean City for the first time last summer and loved it so much we went back in the fall. We stayed right on the ocean and it was bliss, about 7 blocks north of the boardwalk. We would get up at 5AM and go walking on the beach as the sun came up, there would be handfuls of people...

Traveling to London solo, first time international traveler

The Imperial War Museum really drives home the reality of war. It is very interesting and in many parts fascinating. I actually wasn't able to make it all of the way through because it was just...too much. And I'm a tough old bird. So just a warning that this may not be a "feel good" kind...

Traveling to London solo, first time international traveler

Oh definitely take a boat ride on the Thames, even a regular water taxi. Regarding Harrods, if you go try to go early in the day when they first open as it gets very crowded. My favorite big stores, however, are Liberty and Selfridges. Liberty also does a really nice tea. Not on the level of...

What facial hair do the Men in your family have?

Ha! My husband's Fu Manchu is practically legendary. People would stop him on the street to compliment him on it. He's one of the few people I know that still get recognized while wearing their face mask.

Nashville Trip Next Week: Spam Me w/Ideas

Loveless Cafe is wonderful. Also check out Skulls Rainbow Lounge in Printer's Alley. It's very much an old school speakeasy and the food is great. If either of you are gearheads definitely check out the Lane Automotive Museum, especially if you can go when they are doing tours of the vault. I...

Traveling to London solo, first time international traveler

I thought of some other things...some you may already be aware of. You'll need an adaptor for the electrical outlets. Some things like your phone/computer/tablet may be dual voltage and will be fine but you'll still need an adapter for the wall plugs. Also, some wall plugs have off/on switches...

Traveling to London solo, first time international traveler

Lots of good advice already. Definitely get a travel size umbrella and keep it in your bag and accessible, even in your carry on for the flight. Bring a reusable bag, there is a charge for bags in shops. Ensure that you have a CC with no foreign transaction fees and bring a back up card...

    Popeye’s chocolate beignets

The Popeye's ones are something, but they're not beignets. They're beignet-esqe (ala the Jungle Cruise's chicken-esque) or beignet reminiscent. I make my own because we can't get them here. Even easier, Cafe du Monde sells a beignet mix.

    Wheeled carryon luggage

If you get a backpack that slips over the bar of a wheeled bag would that help your balance? As opposed to carrying the backpack on your back. Your best bet would be to "test drive" some wheeled bags and see what works. I had a 4 wheeled spinner that I loved but when I'd slide a bag over the...

    Grandsons getting ears pierced

Oh you guys are the best :) In hindsight I wish that I had thought to say something like, "wow thanks! I am your age and they still look pretty good, don't you think?"

    Grandsons getting ears pierced

This! I got my first tattoo at 28. My husband and I got each other tattoos as wedding gifts...permanent vows, permanent ink. 27 years later we're still married and my tattoos still look pretty good :) However, I have no doubt that what I had chosen as a tattoo at 18 would not be something...

    Grandsons getting ears pierced

I find this thread interesting. My son (almost 17) started asking to get his ears pierced over the summer. At the time a few friends of his had just had theirs done and I was concerned that he only wanted it done because they had done it. After a few months of him asking repeatedly we agreed...

    Why do they.....

Now see, I read this as being about clothing not food. I would wonder about this all of the time! There's a hosiery shop that I used to go to that has their items in drawers. Smallest sizes at the top, bottom drawers hold the large and extra large. So you're either doing the eternal squat...
