Not sure about other versions of Kindle, but on the Fire, just keep your finger on the book/app/whatever you want to delete. A pull-down menu will appear; I believe "remove from carousel" and "remove from device" are your choices.

I've done it several times, with no problems. Bell services will even keep any refrigerated items in a refrigerator, so no food safety issues when you arrive at your new location.
