Rhine cruise questions/pre-night and post-night recs?

I did the Rhine cruise with another company, so I can't comment on anything ABD specific. But we did some tours in Amsterdam that I would recommend. We started with two tours with Eating Europe - one was a walking tour and the other a canal tour. Obviously, we like to eat. :) We also did a...

    National Geographic Expeditions?

That's sad. The Galapagos trip I took with Nat Geo in 2011 (before Disney) was the best trip I've ever taken.

Disney Parks Around the World - A Private Jet Adventure

You just throw your clothes away and buy new ones. :)

    ABD-type trip for senior citizens?

Are there many solo travelers on Road Scholar trips? My son is still willing to travel with me, but he's in college and has a job, so it's harder to schedule something that fits both of our schedules.

    Travel Hacking ABD

    Yes it is. :thumbsup2

    Travel Hacking ABD

It's been a while since I've been on an ABD, but I booked 5 through Costco and the shop card was always around 8%. I think the max is $2000.

Why do you not book your air through ABD?

If you have a credit card that gives double miles for airline purchases you will not get double miles if you book you flight through ABD, since it doesn't appear as an airline charge on your statement.

    Original Scotland Itinerary

Before we arrived at the Callanish Stones, our tour guide called ahead to ask the folks at the visitor's center to save some tables for us at the little cafe there, because sometimes the big buses come and fill it up. When we arrived there was a motor coach from a cruise line just pulling into...

    Original Scotland Itinerary

What did ABD guests do that bothered the locals so much? It's not like there aren't other tourists. We saw big motor coaches from the cruise ships while we were there. And the smaller tour buses, like the ones Rabbies and some of the other UK companies use, were all over. Maybe they complain...

We did the Outer Hebrides tour with Rabbie's Trailblazer 2 years ago and we went to the Fairy Glen. :)

    Travel Changes?

The Basel Airport is in France. But that doesn't help since France is disallowed as well. :(

    Peru/Machu Picchu

Personally I felt rushed. If I were choosing a tour company today, I would choose one that stays at the Sanctuary Lodge or nearby at Aguas Calientes. My trip report is here if you're interested: https://www.disboards.com/threads/peru-3-23-13-trip-report.3097441/ We did this trip in 2013, but...

    Other Options...

Only Rip Ride Rockit and Hulk have metal detectors and you can't bring your phone even if it is secured. For all of the other rides you'll be okay with your phone in a fanny pack if it's small. I didn't carry a bag at all, but I always tucked my phone into a pocket with a button or zipper and...

ABD Rhine River Cruise vs Viking River Cruise

Not that Travel & Leisure is the ultimate authority but here are their rankings for 2019: https://www.travelandleisure.com/worlds-best/river-cruise-lines Cruise Critic Editors also chose Uniworld as the best river cruise line. I wouldn't judge a company based on the appearance of one boat. All...

Has anyone "stolen the itineraries" of ABD?

I combined the old ABD Glacier National Park/Canadian Rockies (GNP, Banff, Lake Louise) and the Tauck Bridges Canadian Rockies (Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper) itineraries and did them on my own. Same hotels (park hotels at GNP, Fairmonts in Canada), most of the same activities, and a few...

Has anyone had Australia in July/August cancelled by ABD?

I had a early July trip cancelled, but it was in 2009, the year of the great recession.

ABD Rhine River Cruise vs Viking River Cruise

Try Tauck or Uniworld. Both have family cruises. I've done one with each, and they were both fantastic. Although service was great for both, the Uniworld crew went above and beyond. I can't say enough good things about them.

    Need opinions and help please!

Demel for something sweet to eat. And this will probably sound weird, but the Hapsburg Imperial Crypt, which is somewhere between The Albertina and St Stephen's. It's located beneath a smaller church and very easy to miss. It doesn't take long to tour the crypt and it's oddly interesting.

Tauck family River Cruise vs. ABD river cruise?

Tauck is the same. Everyone on the boat is a Tauck guest. They contract with a company called Scylla that owns the riverboats. The crew and staff are Scylla employees. The guides and cruise director are Tauck employees. For excursions the guests divide up into groups where 40 is the max per...

Insiders program is only available to US residents?

I got the first 3 or 4 insider gifts and then I never received any more, even on years when I traveled with ABD. I haven't gotten a gift in years, but others have. I know there are others who don't get the gifts as well, who also live in the US. If there's any bright side, you don't have to...
