    Bringing Our Bikes - Questions

I concur with the other bike-riding folks... One of my best memories is watching my two boys pedal like mad to get to the boat dock in the wee hours of the morning, en route to MK, hair blowing in the wind, eyes filled with excitement. There's nothing better!! As I recall, there are bike...

    Campgrounds near Savannah GA

My vote would be the Savannah KOA... easy in & out. We've stayed there and enjoyed the convenience. Conan, the Librarian/ Dragon Slayer, I got a kick out of your name! (I'm a fellow Librarian, after all.)

TCD Live from the Fort- Pool Pics!

Thanks for the funny April Fools prank! You got me on the Musket Mickey... I totally bought that one. The "Alcoholic Beverages Sign" was a bit harder to buy into!! Sooo funny. Thanks again for the laugh AND the pool pictures.

    Need a Back-Up Plan

Just wanted to update all of you "helpful folks..." We were able to piece together a few days at a time, as many of you suggested. Then we tried calling on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning (another suggestion). I'm happy to report that we now have secured ALL of our days! Our first night...

    Need a Back-Up Plan

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Yes, I may start piecing the days together one by one... I have tried extending the stay to two weeks, etc. (then I would cancel days), but even that has not worked. I will definitely try Sunday afternoons and Mon. right at 7:00a.m. Those were helpful...

    Need a Back-Up Plan

Friends, I've been trying to book the Fort for April vacation week (4/11-4/17) with no luck at all. I'm stubborn and have been checking for cancellations online daily- multiple times- for a couple months now. I know, why did I wait this long? The fact is that we have no business going back to...

    Early checkin?

Another reason why they are reluctant to offer the site number is... they don't want you to "shop around" to see if you like other sites better. If you arrive early (as we did on our last visit), you can actually check out the proximity of garbage/recycling bins, comfort stations, etc. We...

Just switched from the GF to FW Cabin...

We drove down from CT in our Minnie Winnie, so the bikes came with us. We didn't want to break camp each day (no toad either), so a rental car was the best option for us... as we don't have the patience for the buses:) I did see many people renting bikes at the Meadows Trading Post... not sure...

    Premium Loop Questions

I caught a signal from the Meadows Trading Post. Some days I would sit on the porch rocking chairs... then I experimented with how far away I could get. My favorite hot spot was the picnic tables near the Meadows Pond while my DH & sons were fishing. Quite cozy! Couldn't go any farther away...

    Helmets

On our recent trip we just hung the helmets on the bikes' handlebars while in the parks. No problema. We locked the bikes, but not the helmets. Worked great!

    Short Fort Review-photos included

I really enjoyed reading your trip report! Your daughter is beautiful... and those pics of her expressions are priceless! I had to chuckle when I read the "nervous driver" part. Then my chuckle became a gut-wrenching laugh when I discovered that your 31 ft. Minnie Winnie is IDENTICAL to ours...

Just switched from the GF to FW Cabin...

Regarding the golf cart question, it's a personal decision to be sure as there are many variables involved (ages, finances, proximity). But I will say that we so enjoyed riding our bikes to & from the boat launch! Watching my 8-yr.-old pedaling like a son-of-a-gun in the wee hours of the...

    Premium Loop Questions

I don't have as much experience as most other DISers... but our recent stay in Loop 800 was terrific. Loved the location (pretty central, close to the pool and wifi, easy bike trip to anywhere). I'd definitely return to that loop.

New to camping and fort wilderness - I have lots of questions!

We stayed at the Fort for the first time over the holidays, and let me tell you that it far exceeded our expectations. We're planning on returning this summer for several weeks to enjoy the campground more. We overdid the parks and left feeling like we should have spent more time relaxing at...

    Mother Nature

kmurawski, We too are facing an icy start to our trek south. Inconvenient? yes. Difficult to load up when your toes are numb? yes. But there's nothing like leaving 20 degree weather to greet 80 degree weather!! (I'm optimistic with the 80 degree thing.) Anyhow, I noticed you have a DS13...

    Official College Football Chat Thread

OU fan here. How can anyone be disappointed with Bradford winning the Heisman Trophy. He put up 48 TDs this year and oh by the way he plays for the team that set the NCAA record for scoring. I think all the canidates were very qualified this year but the guy who had the best year did win.

    site from 12/20-1/3 now available

So sorry that you had to cancel. That really stinks... but I do believe in karma (kharma?? don't know how to spell it). What you give out always comes back to you. So, you see, you are destined for some good fortune coming your way! Happy Holidays.
