Spinoff- when you want a boy or girl and don’t get your wish

My aunt really, really wanted a little girl, but instead she had a boy, then twin boys, then another boy. So, all of the nieces had to go spend time each summer at Aunt's house, and she would dress us up, do our hair, etc, which for those of us who were tomboys was just awful. Years later...

    Turn Off the Faucet Commercial

It's not a question of how much water is available in your area, it's a question of how much treated water is available. Just because the rivers are full, doesn't mean there is plenty of treated water. In my area, more than 80% of summer water usage is on lawn irrigation, so while we normally...

    Irritated!

I work for a utility company, and just wanted to add that this isn't always true. The bank deducts the money from your bank account, and then sends it to us. If we have the account set up so that they can direct deposit the payment to our bank account, we'll receive it in 1-2 business days. If...

Do you "speak" when you enter a room?

We actually had a class that touched on this. The teacher said that basically there are people-oriented people, and task-oriented people. The people people always greet everyone, and the task people don't. I'm one of the task people, and I don't mean to be rude, I am usually just focused on...

How, exactly, am I supposed to live without Jon Stewart?

I didn't like when he took over that summer either, but his new show is pretty great. To the OP, I don't know, I've asked DH this question after every show for the past month. When you figure it out, let me know. :)

If someone points their finger in your face...

Why would you swat it away? It's a rude thing to do, but also pretty childish and ridiculous. I think I'd roll my eyes and walk away.

    Holiday Disasters

Nothing bad this year, but last year I had a small disaster. A bunch of the relatives were coming for dinner, I had everything done, and decided I didn't have enough desserts, so I would make a cherry pie. It got done just a few minutes before everyone got there. I was rushing around and grabbed...

    Idiot Thief

I know this will sound like a joke, but I swear I'm not making it up. About 20 years ago I worked in a very small bank, in a very small town. A man came in with a pillow case over his head, carrying the matching pillowcase, and told us to put all the money in the pillowcase. He then ran off on...

    Youth sports concession stands

I'm one of those that flat out refused to do it. I did it once, never again. Kind of a shame, because I actually like that kind of thing, but the "clique" that organizes it around here makes my blood boil.

    Parents of adult kids

My mom lives several states away, and I have seen her once in the last 20 years. She has never met her only grandchild, he's 12. My dad lives an hour away, I see him maybe once a year.

OK so this could be a game changer

I'm going to play devil's advocate, and say that I can understand Kim's parents' frustration. Maybe the scenario is that I, Kim's mom, know that it is forecasted to rain, and I don't want to be out driving in it, I plan on curling up with a book. Kim wants to go to the party, I tell her no, I...

    Kendall Jones

While I personally find hunting big game for trophies disgusting, I don't get the outrage. This goes on all the time, it's big business there as well as in this country. Why weren't all these people up in arms about it last week, or last month, or last year?

    Whats does your Doctor

Mine calls me "we", as in "How are we feeling today?" I call him Doc. I also call the dentist and the vet Doc. I'm awful with names.

    Employee Interviews

I like to ask "What the biggest mistake you ever made at work, and how did you fix it?" It always surprises me how many people say they've never made a mistake.

    High School Surprises Janitor

Really great story! http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/high-school-surprises-janitor-with--1-900-so-he-can-visit-his-granddaughter-for-the-first-time-185605637.html (I've never posted a link before, so I hope this works.) There are a number of ways that a student body marks the...

Tips on bringing a friend on a vacation (not Disney)

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but this has been very interesting. DS12 is an only child, and I know he would love having a friend along on vacation, but we haven't done it yet. What age does that usually start? I was thinking maybe next year? :confused3

    Anyone watch Dr Phil today?

Yes, I do know that, but they share the results on national tv. I don't trust polygraphs, but if I agreed to take one at all, it would be for the police, not for the general public's viewing pleasure. :confused3

    Anyone watch Dr Phil today?

I think stepdad may or may not know what really happened. I think the guilty party here is mom. She found a guy who "saved her life", the kids were in the way of focusing on him full time, so she killed them. I do understand refusing the polygraph, though. I don't believe they are completely...

Do you carry your cell phone around your house?

We don't have a landline. My cell phone is always in my pocket, and goes on the charger at night. Just because I have it with me all the time doesn't mean I answer it, though. :rotfl: I very, very rarely answer the phone. I carry it for the million other things I do with it.
