Mac & Cheese on Property - will the kids like it?

My son has autism and eats a very limited range of foods for his meals at WDW, primarily chicken nuggets/strips, pepperoni pizza, cheeseburgers and mac & cheese. He loves the stuff served at the food courts and CS places, even though he is now 20. Last year we got Cuban sandwiches at...

Breakfast near or at Hollywood Stuidos

DHS doesn't have a very large selection of breakfast places. ABC Commissary has a breakfast sandwich, yogurt, cereal, cinnamon rolls, but not much variety. We go to Starring Rolls for coffee and a pastry or bagel. The Writer's Stop has excellent coffee and muffins. Hollywood & Vine has a...

    OT! Books Lists For Kids

Well, shoot, the minute I hit "post" I thought of a great series for summer, especially for middle school boys: The Percy Jackson & the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. the first book is The Lightning Thief. We have it in the teen section of our library--that is, when there are actually...

    OT! Books Lists For Kids

Speaking as a youth services librarian, I know the key to getting them to read without complaining is having them find something that interests them. Public library summer reading programs and the ALA website are good sources of book lists. I have sadly found that the lists our schools put out...

The best way to carry pills?

My husband and I both use those 7 day pill sorters, but for the parks, I have a small, two compartment box that says "AM-PM." That way I can easily see if in the excitement of the day I have forgotten to take my pills. Bought it at the drug counter at our local grocery store.

    Mousekeeping tips?

Just as at any other hotel we stay in, we leave $3 - $5 per night for the three of us, and we leave it each day as the person cleaning the room may change. My husband is in charge of this so it can depend upon what cash is in his pocket. $3/night for 7 nights is only $21 dollars, so it is a...

Need help with a delicate matter for my dad....

Getting Guest Services to circle the restrooms on the map is a good idea as the icons are very small. But also all the parks and DTD have Companion Restrooms, where a person in a wheelchair can use a private RR and even get help from a person of the opposite sex. These do not seem to be...

    Question about receiving Pin Codes

Yes, we have gotten a discount code after we had already booked, and our travel agent (at The Magic for Less Travel) was happy to modify our reservation for us. A couple of other times a code came out that she applied and then notified us that she had done so, so we are running about 50% of our...

    Traveling with an Autistic child.

My son is now 20, with autism, and has traveled to WDW 7 times. His trips to WDW have helped him develop patience (from waiting in lines) and work on using his words to ask for things. He feels very comfortable there after several visits. All the suggestions above--rest, using headphones...

taking family to WDW and don't know where to stay!

The advantages are such that we now stay on site every time we visit. Extra Magic Hours, free transportation & the ability to take breaks, and free parking at the parks all make it worthwhile. You also have to stay onsite if you want to use one of the Disney Dining plans. Cost wise, if you...

Is 2 days enough at AK?

If you have never been to AK, and want to experience everything, then two days is about right. AK is our favorite park, but we are not thrill ride people. Instead we spend a lot of time looking at animals, walking around and talking with the CMs, and enjoying shows and performers. We go at...
