    Stocking stuffers that aren't "gifts"

One idea that I didn't see posted was gloves. I also second the paperback book or magazine idea.

Question for experienced American Girl Doll moms....

Mom to a DD8 and DD10 here. We have Bitty Twins and several full size AG dolls. I honestly think that the Bitty Twins will not have the play value for your daughter. For the last couple years, DD10 has been very into AG dolls, mostly because of the books that accompany them, something that is...

Lice how long to stay away

I would probably stay away, too, having dealt with lice a couple years ago. If I did get together, I would take precautions before hand. Lice is going around school now, so my DDs are shampooing with Suave kids Coconut shampoo (budget) or Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo (not budget)...

    SF or LA in April

We took DD8 and DD10 to San Francisco in Nov 2009 because DH had a work conference there. They loved it. We stayed at Fisherman's Wharf. We walked down to see the sea lions at Pier 39 several times, ate at Boudin Bakery, biked across the Golden Gate bridge and ferried back to the wharf, rode...

HELP!! 1ST Time Ever Coloring Hair--Scared and Don't know what to Buy??

I am 38. I have medium to dark brown hair that I have been coloring for about 8 years. I had it done once at a salon but it was so expensive. I think with brown hair, it is easy to get good results with do it yourself hair colors. I have tried many colors (mostly because they were on sale)...

What to get a 9yo and 7yo for b-day and Christmas?

I also have two DDs, older one just turned 10 last week and younger one turned 8 in August, so I am in the same boat as you. For DD8's birthday, from me and DH, she got Mario Kart game for the DS and a trip to Build A Bear to build whatever she wanted. DD10 gave her a LIV doll. (I take the...

Need to come up with $1000 by Aug. 1

Don't know the ages of your kids other than the baby, and if they are young as well, this may not be feasible, but have you considered trying to round up some babysitting jobs for you -- either in your home or someone else's? Maybe housesitting/pet sitting for people who are going on vacation?

    Kid Friendly Meals in Chicago

We usually try to eat Chicago-style deep dish pizza at least once when we are in Chicago. We like Giordano's. There are several in the vicinity that you describe. If we want something quick, we choose either the California Pizza Kitchen in Water Tower Place (6th floor, I think -- it never...

Does everyone force their "junk" on you?

My 90 year old grandmother gives me all of her old shoes/clothes that she doesn't want anymore because we wear the same size. I accept it all, thank her, and then wait a few weeks before donating the things I don't want, just in case she gave me something by mistake and asks for it back!

    Embassy Suites VS Anaheim Hilton

We have stayed at the Anaheim Hilton several times and like the location. We have a family of 4, so space in the room was not an issue for us. It is walkable from the parks, which we liked. The pool area is nice as well. We were there over New Year's one year and DDs went swimming outside...

    Big Bear Skiing in March

We are going to be in So Cal for a week the first week in March. My DH is in a wedding in Ontario, which takes up the last weekend. We are planning 3 days at DL with DDs 7 and 9 and various families of in-laws. My DH lived in Huntington Beach when he was young and after watching the Olympics...

Cavities and no dental insurance, now what? UPDATE 2/23 page #5

Family of 4 here with no dental insurance. We still go to the dentist though, twice a year for the kids and once a year for DH and me. It really isn't that expensive out of pocket where we live. Certainly that probably varies by region. Atleast get an appointment with a dentist and find out...

    Chicago Help for Spring Break

If the weather is nice, with a 22 month old I would recommend Lincoln Park zoo. I believe the zoo is free but parking is expensive. Maybe someone from Chicago can chime in on this. When my girls were little and we went to Chicago they also liked Oak Street beach. It is cool to walk along the...

    give a day..project linus question

Not Project Linus, but if you search my zip code 62704, there is an opportunity to host a family game night to benefit a child abuse prevention agency called the Parent Place. It would be a good volunteer opportunity for the whole family (especially if, like me, you are not sewing gifted) and I...

Tired of Ebay, where else for kid's clothes?

You might want to join a kid's clothing board that has a buy/sell/trade area, like gymborebel.com, which is free to join and free to buy. There is also www.gymbofriends.com, but you have to pay a monthly fee to buy on that board.

Do you pay return shipping to Crocs.com?

I ordered a bunch of crocs from crocs.com before Christmas. I now need to return a couple pairs. I went on the site and followed the instructions for return. It gave me a prepaid FedEx label, but it does not state whether the cost of return shipping will be deducted from by refund if I use...

    American Girl Place Chicago

We are going to Chicago and AG Place this Sat. with DD7 and DD9. We live in IL and have made probably a dozen trips like this. Our first choice for a hotel near the new AG Place would be the Hilton Suites on Delaware. Nice, two room suites, close to the AG Place, and a great indoor pool on...

AMERICAN GIRL doll experts, some Questions Answered please?

You should join an AG internet forum, like AGPlaythings. Lots of information there and buy/sell forums, too. Be careful, AG can become an addiction! I am so glad that you and your DD are enjoying the books along with the doll. DD9, DD7 and I have been reading the new Lanie book since last...

    Adopting a family for Christmas

Another thing that the families request that I never would have thought of on my own is laundry supplies. Many times, food is available from food pantries, but laundry supplies are not. The only concern would be allergies, so you may want to do some investigating if you want to go this route.
